Bleeding from vagina after a bowel movement!

Hi all. I am looking for advice as I am freaking out. Quick background - 30 year old female, mother of 2. (Youngest is 2 years old) both delivered by emergency c section. No previous medical conditions. I last had a smear test done in January 2020 and result came back normal. For the last 6 months or so my periods have been Irregular and most recently I have been spotting a lot in between periods. I have also discovered the connection that every time I have a bowel movement I bleed from my vagina!! I can't find any other explanation for this other than cervical cancer! Anyone experienced this?? TIA!

  • Hi, I’ve been reading all these posts because I’ve been bleeding from my vagina when I poo. I am 70, had a total hysterectomy when I was 40, so I no longer have a womb, ovaries or cervix. I’ve been examined and had an ultra sound and bloods done to check for inflammatory markers, apparently all clear. The bleeding is getting worse, and I’m experiencing bloating, and period type pains. I know I have to go back to the dr but am frightened about what it is.

  • Hello

I know this post was a long time ago. I'm wondering what your outcome was? I'm a 44 year old mother of 3 young children and I have the exact same symptoms as you had. I'm now very worried.

    Hi

I know all these threads are really old but did anyone get a diagnosis or find out why this bleeding happens ?
I bleed when I go for a bowel movement my periods are long with more light bleeding for days before it becomes normal/heavy so my period can be up to 10 days long .
I’ve had some swabs taken because I suffer from vaginal thrush constantly the doctor treats it with long courses of fluconazole then if comes back.
waiting to see gynaecologist but long waiting list.
I was diagnosed with endomyosis which is similar to endometriosis but the tissues and muscles from the uterus fuse together .

    Hello

I'm currently going through the same thing and my doctor says it's perimenopause although I'm still worried it's something more serious. After blood tests, an ultrasound and up to date smear test my doctor said there are no indications of a growth or cancer cells which is my main concern.

Ive just started HRT so will work with the doctor to get the bleeding under control for now.

I think the only other thing I could do is to pay for a CT / MRI scan as the doctor won't refer me for one. Perhaps it is just perimenopause.

    Hi Noelle10,

    • I went back to the dr( who was actually really lovely) who said that it was acute vaginal dryness. She gave me some vaginal lubricants and told me to use aqueous cream to wash with. It’s been fine for a couple of months and then the bleeding (only when I poo) started again this week - which was weird as it coincided with your enquiry! I know I need to go back to the dr, but keep delaying it.
I think you need to go back to your dr too. And anyone else reading this. It is a comfort to know I’m not the only one.
  • I had loads of tests done and the outcome was a small fibroid and cervical ectropian.

  • Hello

    Thank you for your response.

What tests did you have done? And was it all NHS?

Did your doctor mention peri-menopause at all?

  • What is the treatment for that? Has the bleeding now stopped?

  • It was tests all done at the hospital on the NHS. There was a trans vaginal scan, and another type of scan too that checked everything. They said there was something I could have some procedure done to help stop the bleeding, but I was just so relieved it wasn’t anything more worrying.

  • I’m 28 year old and I have been hating ongoing severe pelvic pain since May 2025. This last week the pain has been horrendous and the last 3 days I’ve noticed I’m bleeding vaginally when opening my bowells. I contacted the doctor today but feel so fobbed off. I’m under investigation for endometriosis and have an MRI next month so hopefully will get more answers then
