Bleeding from vagina after a bowel movement!

Hi all. I am looking for advice as I am freaking out. Quick background - 30 year old female, mother of 2. (Youngest is 2 years old) both delivered by emergency c section. No previous medical conditions. I last had a smear test done in January 2020 and result came back normal. For the last 6 months or so my periods have been Irregular and most recently I have been spotting a lot in between periods. I have also discovered the connection that every time I have a bowel movement I bleed from my vagina!! I can't find any other explanation for this other than cervical cancer! Anyone experienced this?? TIA!

  • I am waiting a gynae appointment. I really hope you get good news, it's extremely worrying, l think l may lose my mind with worry. I am very constipated and have piles, so l am hoping that's a contributing factor. I have 3 small kids, so you can imagine my fears.

  • Thankyou, trying to put it to the back of my mind. I have piles too, just hope it’s something to do with . Hope you get your appointment soon. Once they finally decided to send me a gynaecologist I was seen quite quickly. Sending love

  • Hiya. Im sorry everyone is going through all this worry, but i have been reading through some of these comment and realised i have been experiencing the same. i am 34, I have had bleeding for over 2 weeks now, brown when wipe then bright red just after a bowel movement, (sorry for the to much info) i had my smear October 2024 and was fine, I do have PCOS and endometriosis. I can't get a GP appointment either. I need to wait till Monday to try again..

  • Hi Star3404,

First I would like to say I am not a qualified medic and only speaks from my own many experiences regarding bleeding. If you had a smear in October last year you are probably in the clear regarding that matter as abnormal cell changes take years to develop in most cases. That's why smear test are done years apart. Your bleeding could may be you suffering from endometriosis as I understand they are depending on hormonal changes. My last bleeding was due to hormonal changes, which can happen for many reasons your doctor can explain for you. Try your best to stay calm and get an appointment to put  your mind at rest. All the best to you.

  • Thank you for replying. Yea I did think it may hormonal, just scares me, I know someone my age had cervical cancer and it was missed on the smear test. Cancer is big in my family, and with my mental health, my brain goes to the worst-case scenario because nothing can get worse if you think the worst. Awful thought process, I know. I'm going to push for a appointment Monday and hope they help

  • Cervical cancer is not general classified as a inherent cancer as some breast cancer. It's a long term viral infection that CAN develop into cancer IF going unnoticed for years in most cases. Hope that put you mind to rest.
