Bleeding from vagina after a bowel movement!

Hi all. I am looking for advice as I am freaking out. Quick background - 30 year old female, mother of 2. (Youngest is 2 years old) both delivered by emergency c section. No previous medical conditions. I last had a smear test done in January 2020 and result came back normal. For the last 6 months or so my periods have been Irregular and most recently I have been spotting a lot in between periods. I have also discovered the connection that every time I have a bowel movement I bleed from my vagina!! I can't find any other explanation for this other than cervical cancer! Anyone experienced this?? TIA!

  • Hi,

I have the same did you get an answer?

    xx

  • Hi. Like quite a lot on here, I had bleeding from the front when going for a poop. I'm postmenopausal, the bleeding was slight and went on for a while. I read a lot about it online. In the end I ordered a candesten home test, which showed up for bacterial vaginosis.  I didnt think this was connected to the bleeding.  I ordered some bacterial vaginosis gel applicator from boots. I've been using these on a night. My bleeding has stopped now.

  • Hi I'm having very similar, I've told my doctors and consultants but they don't seem to do any investigation as this is surly not normal, I'm post menopausal so it's not a period

  • Hi I am also post menopausal and have been bleeding from my vigina when opening my bowels. I went to the doctors today and she gave me a full examination and has referred me to the 2 week cancer clinic.

    Haa

anyone been and had results back as I am so anxious and I am not sure what to think..

Hopefully everything should be OK but I am having period like pains and also brown discharge..pushing into being nearly 60.

    Thankyou in advance.

  • Hi Dawn

I know your post was a year ago now but I am in a similar position to you. Turning 30 in September and experiencing non menstrual bleeding the week before my period for a while now. Just linked it to defecating and I'm having a panic even had to show my partner the devastation of the toilet bowl!! I'm booked in for a scan on the 27th July but scared that I need one sooner :(

  • I don't have a monthly cycle any more but I did have a hernia surgery a few months ago do you think that could need looking at or shell I just leave it and see what happens next time I have a poo and see when I wipe my Vigina and it happens again I should call the doctor.

  • Hi Diane and welcome to Cancer Chat.

I just wanted to let you know that HRW hasn't been on the forum since May last year so you may not hear back from them.

I hope your symptoms have improved since making this post but if they haven't and you're still concerned, do be sure book an appointment with your GP as they are in the best position to answer your questions and put your mind at ease.

Fingers crossed everything will be o.k Diane.

    All the best,

  • Hi,

I don't know if any of you are still active on this post, but I've been getting blood after pooping for a while now (5/6 months) I recently found out I have CIN3 pre-cancerous cells on my cervix, but never really put 2 and 2 together with the bleeding after a poop.... I've got a loop biopsy on the 16th of this month, could the blood mean it could have already turned into cancer???

hope there's someone still here to advise me!
    thanks

  • Hi Kayye, I have never missed a smear so was surprised when in March I had severe abnormal cells and required urgent treatment! I had lletz treatment a couple of months ago and it was cin3.  Apparently all was removed and am due my next follow up smear in September.  The bleeding from the treatment lasted about 6weeks, however, I've noticed that now I too start spotting with a bowl movement and I also have that end of period brown smudgy bleeding a week or so before my actual period comes in. It's started again this morning after a number two so I née to wait to see what happens before going back to the gp. I have a rectocele hernia and have been pregnant 5 times and given birth twice- the most recent was just over two years ago, so I'm not sure what is going on. I could also be winding towards being perimenopausal. I did have some poop vag bleeding before but put it down to the hernia. I had no other symptoms so I was very surprised at the cin3 diagnosis,  hell- the abnormal cells part was just as much a shock. You won't know for sure until they biopsy the tissue, but the chances are generally low. I won't say don't worry because that's completely what we do, but I'll ask you to write it down and ask the consultant this when you go in. That way you will have some peace of mind. I can't find the answer online, so I guess it's because it's an individual thing, but if you could, would you let me know what you find out and how you get on? There needs to be more talk on this sort of thing so we don't suffer in silence. I hope you get a positive outcome!!

  • Welcome to the forum Kayy86 although I'm sorry about your symptoms and for the worry they and your latest cervical screening results are causing.

I do hope you hear back from some of our more recent members on this thread but if you'd like to talk through your thoughts and concerns with one of our cancer nurses, then do give them a call on 0808 800 4040.
