Lump on left testicle that seems to change in size

I'm 16 now but I first noticed the lump just over 2 years ago and it is a soft-ish lump that seems to change in size. Sometimes I can hardly feel that it is even there. It doesn't cause any pain but can occasionally feel a little bit uncomfortable. It has a sort of texture to it so it's not completely smooth but I was just wondering if it's something to worry about or not. I also do not have any specific symptoms that I've had to worry about.

  • Hi Jamie. Welcome to the forum.

I'm not a doctor, and what I've written here is what I would do personally.

If this is at the top of the testicle then it could be a structure called the epididymis. This is often felt as a lump and plenty of young men get alarmed when they discover it, but it's quite normal.

Since it's been there for two years, your lump is probably just a normal part of your anatomy. I would check it every month. If it's stable and soft then it's probably nothing to worry about.  If it changes or gets painful or you're just worried, see your doctor.

  • Thanks for the reassurance, I don't feel as worried about it now. I'll probably still contact my GP but is it normal for there to be a lump on the left but not the right testicle

  • Hi Jamie.

I don't really know enough to say whether it's normal or not.  You could post the question to the Ask the Nurses part of the forum - they'd probably know.
