Unexplained lump above collarbone

Hi everyone,

I hope this post is okay, I'm not sure what's wrong with me and I don't want to offend those who have been diagnosed but I'm so anxious right now. I'm 20 years old, and I'm at university right now. About 4.5 weeks ago, I found a small lump above my collarbone on the left side. It feels about 1cm and is oval shaped, smooth and I can move it around easily. I noticed it the day after I had a flu jab so just thought it as an effect of that. It hadn't gone away in a week so I phoned the GP and they agreed to phone in three weeks. Three weeks later and it was still there, they ordered some bloods which all came back clear. They've referred me for an ultrasound after examining it - he said it felt like a lymph node and that from feeling it there shouldn't be anything to worry about. I just keep jumping to the worst conclusions and thinking that I have lymphoma, because I've had really bad fatigue for the past few months. I had glandular fever in summer 2019, and I'm so scared that it could have caused lymphoma. So sorry for the ramble, I just don't know what else it could be apart from that.

  • Yep 100%. Couple of times thought it was on way out & then a while later nah still same.

I've taken advice & left it well alone.

  • Yes. Mine is exactly the same  - up and down! .(after 12 weeks). I thought it was getting smaller but not too sure now. The size definitely depends on which angle I approach it from.  I'm trying very hard just to forget about it for a while - not easy! I feel reassured that it doesn't  appear to be increasing in size from when I originally found it though and still very moveable.

  • I flund myself looking for it this morning which probably says something. But I'm sure it'll still be palpable for ages.

I'm going to report it on yellow card scheme.

  • I do this too. I have also reported on the yellow card scheme as I do think more should be said about this as a potential side effect.

I noticed a couple of years ago that one side of my collarbone sticks out more than the other and the side where I can feel the lymph node is the side that is pushed back more and I believe if the sides were equal than I migjt not even feel it.

I can still feel mine and it is moveable too.

    Best wishes to all x

  • Yeah mine is moveable. It's like it's on a string and you can move the line up and down slightly when you push the node like twanging a guitar string and you can almost move it along the string slightly, especially when it seems to be smaller.

It's the most difficult thing ever to leave alone but I am definitely going to try that for a week or two.

  • Mines still there and moveable couldn't feel it much yesterday so was hoping! I've reported to yellow card scheme too.

  • I know this thread is a little old but I was just wondering if your soreness has calmed down now?

I had my moderna covid jab 8 days ago. On Thursday I noticed a small lump above my collarbone which I assume is an inflamed lymph node but yesterday the part where my shoulder joins my arm became incredibly tender and I too noticed a small bump underneath my collarbone area. Did yours go away?

  • Hey, welcome to the club. I haven't seen a post on here yet where someone says their node has completely gone. We all seem do be ranging from a week to a couple of months.

Personally mine has been just over two weeks and it seems to be shrinking very slowly overall.

Ours are all above collar bone as far as I can tell but there are lymph nodes all over your body. If you are at all concerned it might be worth speaking to your doctor for some reassurance.

  • I'm 3 weeks in & seeing VERY slow shrinkage. I could definietly see it 2 weeks back as a small bump in skin an inch above collarbone but can only feel it now.

Definietly movable - feels like a very small butter bean. Feels different depending how I touch it, so staying clear of it.

But 3 weeks in seems to be sinking into the flesh around it a bit more & just going on gut feel it is shrinking. I have a non urgent ultrasound on the way but god knows when that'll be & hopefully I won't need it.

@ Mzee - Moderna here as well. Had a really stiff shoulder & only felt lump when I was massaging area.

  • Hello, I am same!

I used to be able to see it in the mirror when moving my shoulders back but now I can't.  I am also having to sometimes search for it too which is a good sign.

I also think that not touching it makes a real difference and I know it is hard to leave alone especially when you want to check and see if it has gone down but it is a vicious circle.

I have an ultrasound booked for 01 June
