Unexplained lump above collarbone

Hi everyone,

I hope this post is okay, I'm not sure what's wrong with me and I don't want to offend those who have been diagnosed but I'm so anxious right now. I'm 20 years old, and I'm at university right now. About 4.5 weeks ago, I found a small lump above my collarbone on the left side. It feels about 1cm and is oval shaped, smooth and I can move it around easily. I noticed it the day after I had a flu jab so just thought it as an effect of that. It hadn't gone away in a week so I phoned the GP and they agreed to phone in three weeks. Three weeks later and it was still there, they ordered some bloods which all came back clear. They've referred me for an ultrasound after examining it - he said it felt like a lymph node and that from feeling it there shouldn't be anything to worry about. I just keep jumping to the worst conclusions and thinking that I have lymphoma, because I've had really bad fatigue for the past few months. I had glandular fever in summer 2019, and I'm so scared that it could have caused lymphoma. So sorry for the ramble, I just don't know what else it could be apart from that.

  • Hi.

I had my Oxford AZ jab just over 3 weeks ago. I noticed the lump sitting just above my collarbone 2 days later. Same side as my jab, left hand side. Dr has run blood tests. All ok. I have got to call him back if it has not gone by end of May and he will refer me to specialist.

trying not to worry. This chat has really helped

  • This chat really helped me too. I was going out of my mind but it seems it is a common occurrence that coincides with the AZ vaccine.

I have an ultrasound booked for 01 June but hoping it is gone by then! Xx

  • Glad this is helping as much as its helping me.

Mine was Moderna so seems they all might do it...

Fingers crossed couple of weeks down the line we're all immune & lump free

  • Hi all,

i feel a bit better seeing this chat, it's helped me relax a little.
I had my first Pfizer jab about 10 week's ago and had no side effects at all apart from a dead arm for the day, but 3days later I noticed a lump in the middle of my collar bone (sternal notch) didn't worry to much about it as it just felt like a fatty deposit and gp advised to leave it a month. I didn't think much more about it until my second jab 2 weeks ago. lymph nodes up on my left side, the day after and still now today and is a hard pea size lump within the fatty deposit mentioned earlier in the sternal notch. I have been back to gp and am now waiting for a blood test next week. Has anyone else here had or got a lump in the sternal notch area?

  • Glad this has helped a little.

Mine is on neck 2 inches above collarbone. Most on here seem to be above or on collarbone.

Did GP examine you? I managed to get hands on mine & was reassuring. Consistency, size & my lack of any red flags seemed to influence that. But bloods in couple of weeks if it doesn't go.

There are people on here with lumps for weeks though.

If it is sitting there small & not growing and on same side as vaccine then hopefully nothing will come of it.

  • Hi

i hope your scan goes well today, please let us know what they say and hopefully then I you can relax

    xx

  • Hey folks,

Glad I found this forum. Thought I would chime in with my experience so far. 42 M.

28/4/2021 - had first shot of Astrazeneca

30/4/2021 - first noticed small lump above colar bone same same side as shot (left). When I noticed it I described it as like the pill Morpheus offers Keanu in the Matrix. But just like most people have described here.

9/5/2021 - can't stop touching it just like everyone else. Seems to have started to reduce today. I had a very hot bath last night not sure if that may have helped. Hopefully it will keep getting smaller. I am gonna try not to touch it till Friday to see if the difference is more noticeable that way.

It has been reassuring reading all your posts so far. Definitely seems like a fairly common side effect. I have not yellow card reported it yet, I imagine there are a lot of people who haven't so maybe it's under reported.

    Thanks

  • Hello

I think same, I put warm water on it in the shower but I think me keep checking it doesn't help!

I had my vaccine on 25 April and noticed it a couple of days after and I think mine might be reducing?

There is another post where someone is same and had her 2nd shot on the other arm to see if same reaction and it did!

    Sending best wishes to all

  • Aw, thank you. And I can relax! I was told that the lymph nodes are just a bit swollen (the right one in particular), but no further action is required. So nothing nasty found there, and I should only contact my GP and go back if lymph nodes start getting noticeably bigger and visible.

He said that the same thing could happen again after the second jab and that lymph nodes can stay swollen for months or even a year!

I hope everyone else gets such a good result and feels reassured.

    xx

  • That's great news I'm so pleased do you but that's such a long time for the lymph nodes to stay up isn't it
