Unexplained lump above collarbone

Hi everyone,

I hope this post is okay, I'm not sure what's wrong with me and I don't want to offend those who have been diagnosed but I'm so anxious right now. I'm 20 years old, and I'm at university right now. About 4.5 weeks ago, I found a small lump above my collarbone on the left side. It feels about 1cm and is oval shaped, smooth and I can move it around easily. I noticed it the day after I had a flu jab so just thought it as an effect of that. It hadn't gone away in a week so I phoned the GP and they agreed to phone in three weeks. Three weeks later and it was still there, they ordered some bloods which all came back clear. They've referred me for an ultrasound after examining it - he said it felt like a lymph node and that from feeling it there shouldn't be anything to worry about. I just keep jumping to the worst conclusions and thinking that I have lymphoma, because I've had really bad fatigue for the past few months. I had glandular fever in summer 2019, and I'm so scared that it could have caused lymphoma. So sorry for the ramble, I just don't know what else it could be apart from that.

  • Hi,

Yeah the sonographer said he had the same side effect too. I reported it to the yellow card scheme when it happened but might report that they are still enlarged 6 weeks plus. X

  • That's great they turned out to be ok.

My gp called so my bloods show low b12 so I've to discuss with her tomorrow. Not sure if that would cause enlarged lymph nodes.

    Take care

  • Hi Over_thinker,

You and everyone in this thread has put my mind at ease slightly, I had my C-19 vaccine (Pfizer) a week and a half ago and now have a swollen supraclavicular lymph node (left side, same as the shot).

I hadn't put two and two together so went to my GP, I have a blood test today and urgent referral in the next 2 weeks - they seemed genuinely worried. I'm trying to rationalise things as I know left collarbone lymph nodes are not good places for swelling.

Fingers crossed to all in this thread! Will keep an eye on updates and will update myself!

  • Hi

Yes - scary times! I'm feeling a bit less anxious than I was too, realising I'm not alone - I also read a report from the US yesterday that specifically mentioned collar bone lymph nodes swelling as a result of the vaccine as well as axillary nodes. I think we will all become experts on supraclavicular nodes at this rate - I didn't realise they existed before now!! Do hope your blood tests are ok - and keep us posted! Did your gp consider a link to the vaccine?

    Best of luck to all

  • Thank you everyone, its reaasuring that others have experienced this after having the vaccine.

Mine is right sided same as my jab. I have been trying to forget about it as the dr wasnt concerned, but it has been about 5/6 weeks now, so might call them again. I have started with a lot pain in my right shoulder too, but dont know if its just because I am poking around so much . Hopefully its just a strange side effect from the jab!

    Xxx

  • Hi

Thats good that your doctor doesn't seem too concerned - I know exactly what you mean by constantly poking the lump though and making it sore. It's the first thing I do when I wake up hoping it has miraculously disappeared !! From what I've read some lymph nodes do take ages to return to normal size - do keep us posted and hopefully for all of us it's just a reaction to the jab!!

  • Thank you for all posting your findings.

I found a lump above left collarbone yesterday which was 4 days after Oxford COVID vaccine.

it's weird how you just all of a sudden find this little lump that wasn't there before when you least expect it.

I've read the leaflet that said it can enlarge lymph nodes and googled all about arm pit lymph nodes getting enlarged, but no so much about collar bone ones.

It makes sense that they are on the same side as injection site .

let's hope they all go down soon and we can stop worrying,

thank you all for putting my mind at ease x

all the best to you all xxxx

  • Hi

I agree - It is reassuring that we have had the same side effect - mine was identical to yours. I had the Oxford jab on a Wednesday and noticed a lump above my collarbone the following Saturday on the same side as the injection. Of course then you start wondering whether it was there before and you just didn't notice it!!
I'm finding collar bone lymph node swelling mentioned on quite a few websites now as a side effect. Maybe it's more prevalent than they expected it to be?

My node is still swollen 4 weeks on but from what I have read they sometimes take a while to go down. I've decided to give it a couple more weeks before I get it checked. Hopefully yours will go down quickly.

Hope things work out well  for everyone xx
