Complex ovarian cyst

I've had an ultrasound which has picked up hundreds of fibroids and a complex cyst on my right ovary. My CA125 is 139.
Fast forward two weeks and I've seen a junior consultant, who wasn't concerned at all and basically told me there's nothing wrong with me, she would only be worried if I were 20 years older!! I'm 43..... she said they would monitor me every 3 months. Obviously I went out of the hospital in a daze feeling like I've wasted their time!!

I was assigned a support worker from the gyny team at my local hospital once my doctor did a fast track referral and thank god she rang me!!

The senior consultant requested an MRI which I have now had. My next appointment is next week. The waiting is affecting my every day routine and I can think of nothing but having cancer and leaving my 13 year old twins. I know it's not long to wait but I'm so scared.

  • I'm 38 with two children too. My CA125 levels were high after I had an ultrasound that found bilateral cysts with solid areas. One cyst is around 10cm and is painful, especially to the touch. I had an endometrium biopsy, an MRI and more blood tests (all looking for cancer markers and organ problems) so am waiting on the results. I'm scared. Not just of it potentially being cancer but of the treatment I might be needing. I'm a wuss about operations etc. Waiting and not knowing though is torturous. Veering from thinking I must be okay to searching for confirmation of this to thinking the worst. I hope everyone on this thread will be okay.

  • Hi I have the same issue i have 2 complex cysts on my ovaries I just turned 26 I am really worried to I have a gynaecologist app on the 13tb April but again I don't know what this is for because no one really wants to explain anything to me I'm having my bloods tested tomorrow and my doctors have booked me in for a c t scan I have an 8 year old boy and o am so scared that this could be something more everyone is saying stay positive but thinking the worst as usual did anything happen with yours are you okay what were your results

  • Hi,

i have a 10cm complex cyst on my ovary and they want to remove it along with both my ovaries, tubes and an abdominal hysterectomy.  I do not have any pain and i only found out due to bleeding in between my periods once.  I am going to pay for a second opionion and ask for a hystroscopy to be done before i make my decision.  I really only want the cyst removed and the ovary it is attached to, I dont know why they have to remove everything else, however they did say it is my decision.  The tumour markers ca125 came back at 9 & 8 so that was good and the consultatants at the MDT meeting are saying it is unlikely to be malignant.  It is a very hard decision to make, however they cant be 100% sure it is benign unless they remove it and test it!  I really feel for you all it is awful to go through this. I am 49yrs old and i dont want to go through the menapause early.  i will let you all know what the private consultant says.

  • Hello everyone,

I am 49, and thought I may have been going through the change as I missed the odd period, then had a really heavy period, I have never had one that heavy since eating them as a teenager.
I have always since about 32 had bloating and I had really bad pain ( I thought I was having a miscarriage or ectopic)  which way back I thought was due to a coil I had fitted. The doctor said it was IBS.
Around a month ago I had test to see if I was on the menapause but they came back that I am not.
I was referred for a scan, which showed I had a 7.5 cm cysts. On my right ovary. I have had no pain whatsoever. The technician fast tracked the info back to my GP, who referred me for an MRI scan which I had that this morning, the consultant who referred me also took bloods for ca125, anaemia, kidney, and liver.
I haven't had the results back from my bloods, I didn't want to call them.
How long generally do the results of the MRI take to come back?
It's from only reading this thread that I have noticed that everyone's periods have altered, and mostly you have all had pain. Thankfully I haven't suffered with that but once you are aware that something exists it's as if your brain says it's there.
my thoughts are with you all going through the same. Stay strong x
    Tina

  • Hi I'm 33 and have a 35 cm cyst and have been told I have to have a full hysterectomy because they can't be sure if it contains cancerous cells and rather than waiting to do a biopsy and then having to go back under the knife they suggested that. I'm completely fine with that as I wouldn't want to risk going through this again or even worse x

  • I would rather they take mine all away too.

My complex cyst is 4cm or 4.5cm and they still  have my on the urgent list for surgery yet nothing.  Its been 2 years now.  Been to a&e twice.  Been admitted for severe pains twice also.

  • Hey everyone, I have been reading all of your stories and want to hug each and every one of you :(

I came on here trying to find some answers and trying to stay back from google, im terrified right now and dont know where to turn.

I have just been told I have a 20cm x 20cm x 11cm cyst. I went to doctors because of the severe abdominal pain, irregular periods and pain during sex, pain in left hip and base of back and my tummy was also bloated. This has been going on for a few years and I got fobbed off telling me I'm just overweight and need to eat healthy and go to gym to shed the pounds.  About 8 weeks ago the pain was terrible and I was taking painkillers daily, my husband and I couldnt be intimate due to pain and the bloating in my tummy. After christmas my tummy got really big and on January 10th I called the doctor and got an appointment. She did a check of my tummy and agreed to send me to the hospital for a scan within 3 weeks (cancer runs in my family and my mum currently has stage 4 cervical cancer)

I got a pelvic scan on 20th January and was told I would get the results within 7-10 days. The following morning at 7.45am my doctor calls me and says he has bad news, they found a cyst and its 20cm x 20cm x 11cm and it has a solid part in the middle with other small solid parts in it aswell. I started crying as he said that the solid mass usually means ovarian cancer. He sent me to gynacology at hospital same day to get another scan that I was told should be a CT scan but they did another pelvic scan and the gynacologist did an internal exam with her fingers which she said seems ok. I was told they need to get the cyst out and will book me in for the operation to remove and sent me home, Now im terrified I have cancer and not sure when I will get this removed or what is happening next, does anyone have experience of a huge cyst with solis parts and was it okay. Im sorry im beside myself with worry. My mum is currently dying with stage 4 cervical cancer and I'm trying to deal with that and be there for her, we lost my gran and my father in law within 4 weeks of each other just before christmas (my father in law had bowel cancer) If anyone can help me or if i can help anyone with my story then id be very happy, thanks for reading, sending love to you all xx

  • I'm not sure why they said it's likely to be cancer (so please don't worry too much) as the solid part definitely doesn't mean it is cancer.  Mine has a complex and solid part and they're all pretty sure it isn't cancer.  Could possibly be a teratoma or dermoid cyst.  Xx

  • Thank you for replying to me. I've heard alot of people talk about CA125 and although I had 4 blood tests taken they never told me what for. I was told my ovaries showed a problem and that my kidneys etc are OK. They never ďiscussed types of cysts with me and told me they will let me know when they know. I am driving myself crazy and keep busting into tears thinking I might have cancer as I have a 9 year old and 2 other kids and a hubby who is equally as terrified. You have helped me believe that it's not all bad and there's still hope. Thank you   xx

  • Always here to chat if you need.  I also have 2 children and one of them is 9. Xx
