Complex ovarian cyst

I've had an ultrasound which has picked up hundreds of fibroids and a complex cyst on my right ovary. My CA125 is 139.
Fast forward two weeks and I've seen a junior consultant, who wasn't concerned at all and basically told me there's nothing wrong with me, she would only be worried if I were 20 years older!! I'm 43..... she said they would monitor me every 3 months. Obviously I went out of the hospital in a daze feeling like I've wasted their time!!

I was assigned a support worker from the gyny team at my local hospital once my doctor did a fast track referral and thank god she rang me!!

The senior consultant requested an MRI which I have now had. My next appointment is next week. The waiting is affecting my every day routine and I can think of nothing but having cancer and leaving my 13 year old twins. I know it's not long to wait but I'm so scared.

  • Hey

I have a 4.4cm cyst on my right ovary. I was told after a few ultrasounds that my cyst looked complex. I spent days and night googling and worrying. I'm 38 years old and have two children.
My CA125 was also high and twice the results for this test came up increased. So 3 months later I get a call to say you have a MRI booked and some more bloods, to b told 2 weeks later that my cyst is a hemorrohaging cyst and my CA125 results have decreased. So my MRI found nothing sinister but I am due to have surgery to drain the cyst and remove endometriosis.

  • Hi all, Read youre stories and for reassurance.

I do hope you are all well and hope I'm not intruding.

My partner is 26 and has a 3cm complex ovarian cyst.

She is rather petite and 5'3, Her stomach is very bloated and in constant pain daily and codeine that was prescribed along with anti sickness, Just helps when it kicks in.

She is now in a lot more pain and I am worried sick and overthink it may get worse to the thing I really hope its not.

She had a son at 20 with a C section and her mother had Breast Cancer and sadly passed at 46.

I've read up so many articles and forums about it and just want advice and I'm terrified.

She has gave me consent to talk about our personal lives on this so she can understand aswell.

She is due another scan in a few weeks but we are phoning the NHS24 for advice tomorrow and probably going up to A&E.

They said previously that they would only remove it if it was 5cm or bigger.

She has an eating disorder which doesn't help and it shows her stomach bloated.

I've also researched about Tumeric,Garlic extract and Vitiman D3 which all aid in shrinking and hopefully killing off the Cyst.

Which she now takes daily with food.

I really really really hope and pray its nothing serious as she is really young and also had a Child which put my mind at ease but then finding out it can be linked to Breast cancer in the family which she had (Her mother).

Any advice or reassurance would be incredible and I can only apologise if I'm in the wrong for posting on here.

I just want to speak with people who have this first hand to get more information as the doctors haven't really been helpful recently.

Thank you for you're time and I hope you are all safe and well.

    Thank you

  • I'm too sitting frantically worrying it's easy for everyone to say try not to worry  ,my problem started 2019  I went from having 28 day cycle that lasted 3 days never had any problems until then I started having severly heavy bleeding tmi sorry but with clots so big you needed to push out this lasted everyday for 7 months I couldn't go out I had to strip my bedding the doctors did blood tests I was so low on iron they gave me tablets after tablets to try stop it nothing worked It eventually stopped I would then go 3 or 4 months without period to it lasting a month at a time ,I always thought I had ibs so they tested for bowel cancer last year it was clear then 6th September 2020 the bleeding returned I wrnt back to go more bloods more iron and cocktail of medicine, bleeding stopped 16th Dec my scan was 22nd Dec it showed 2, 6cm cysts with thickening I have to get ca125 blood test and hysteroscopy  this has already ruined my life before I even know for sure,

because It was to painful to be intimate with my husband when I wasn't bleeding and sleeping in separate rooms as I was so embarrassed we broke November last year after 13years of marriage I'm still heartbroken ,I forgot to add I'm only 37

  • Hi, how did your appointment go on 12th Jan? I hope you got answers and a date for your appointment? I had my 15ish cm cyst removed 8 weeks and I found out last week that it contained cancerous cells - being told this on my own in the hospital room was heartbreaking, I am only 25 :( I had to have blood tests the same day and CT scan the following day to see if there was any more cancer in my body then I have an appointment on Monday to discuss next steps. They are thinking potentially removing the ovary and some rounds of chemo.

So anybody reading this PLEASE keep pestering the doctors, gynae, go to A+E and refuse to leave.. I don't want this to happen to you too. My CA125 blood test was normal throughout this so please pester them to get you checked.

Sending my love to you all x

  • I am so sorry to read your news, I can only imagine what you’re going through. To be given that news when you’re alone as well must have been especially difficult.

I bave been on a bit of a bizarre rollercoaster to be honest. My CA-125 came back at 7. I attended my gynae appointment on the 12th only for the consultant to not be able to see my ultrasound images because the scan had been done in a different hospital trust. He examined me and said he couldn’t feel anything to be concerned about but he rebooked me for another ultrasound. I had that done earlier this week and the sonography said she isn’t concerned by what she’s seen. So I now have two complete differences of opinion. I have a private consultation on Tuesday next week with a gynae oncologist as I want a specialist opinion on the two sets of scans. I’m worried of something being missed :(

You are definitely right to encourage women to keep pushing, I feel like when you’re younger (I’m 36 so older than you but still young in terms of a ovarian cancer) they just dismiss it as not being anything serious when it very well could be. I will hope you get a treatment plan soon and wish you all the best x

  • I'm so sorry to hear this ,  I have a complex dermoid cyst with abnormal characteristics and was 7 by 5 by 4 at my last ultrasound 3 months ago, I was put on the urgent surgery list but due to covid haven't heard anything not even a preop....I'm now worried as for the past 3 weeks I have been bloated like 9months pregnant, I'm gaining weight even though I can only eat 500cals a day with small snacks....I don't know wether I should ring doctor and let them know this change given the current situation with covid....or just wait till they contact me about preop....

Any advice is greatly appreciated x

  • Hi Goldie2811... I would definitely recommend ringing back the gynae team at the hospital and asking for some sort of guidance, let them know any pains you are having and just say you are really worried and concerned and hopefully they will be able to make some notes on your account to push forward the operation. I feel like they don't treat us fairly and just think it's just a little cyst on our ovary but they can actually be very painful and uncomfortable and worrying when we aren't sure what is going on!!

  • I'm so sorry you're going through this, especially when so young. Hopefully yours is an early stage, CA125 being normal might indicate that it is. I know it's scary. Massive virtual hug. Will be thinking of you.

I imagine you know more now. Hoping you got good news.

  • Hi I have the same issue i have 2 complex cysts on my ovaries I just turned 26 I am really worried to I have a gynaecologist app on the 13tb April but again I don't know what this is for because no one really wants to explain anything to me I'm having my bloods tested tomorrow and my doctors have booked me in for a c t scan I have an 8 year old boy and o am so scared that this could be something more everyone is saying stay positive but thinking the worst as usual did anything happen with yours are you okay what were your results

  • Hey everyone, I have been reading all of your stories and want to hug each and every one of you :(

I came on here trying to find some answers and trying to stay back from google, im terrified right now and dont know where to turn.

I have just been told I have a 20cm x 20cm x 11cm cyst. I went to doctors because of the severe abdominal pain, irregular periods and pain during sex, pain in left hip and base of back and my tummy was also bloated. This has been going on for a few years and I got fobbed off telling me I'm just overweight and need to eat healthy and go to gym to shed the pounds.  About 8 weeks ago the pain was terrible and I was taking painkillers daily, my husband and I couldnt be intimate due to pain and the bloating in my tummy. After christmas my tummy got really big and on January 10th I called the doctor and got an appointment. She did a check of my tummy and agreed to send me to the hospital for a scan within 3 weeks (cancer runs in my family and my mum currently has stage 4 cervical cancer)

I got a pelvic scan on 20th January and was told I would get the results within 7-10 days. The following morning at 7.45am my doctor calls me and says he has bad news, they found a cyst and its 20cm x 20cm x 11cm and it has a solid part in the middle with other small solid parts in it aswell. I started crying as he said that the solid mass usually means ovarian cancer. He sent me to gynacology at hospital same day to get another scan that I was told should be a CT scan but they did another pelvic scan and the gynacologist did an internal exam with her fingers which she said seems ok. I was told they need to get the cyst out and will book me in for the operation to remove and sent me home, Now im terrified I have cancer and not sure when I will get this removed or what is happening next, does anyone have experience of a huge cyst with solis parts and was it okay. Im sorry im beside myself with worry. My mum is currently dying with stage 4 cervical cancer and I'm trying to deal with that and be there for her, we lost my gran and my father in law within 4 weeks of each other just before christmas (my father in law had bowel cancer) If anyone can help me or if i can help anyone with my story then id be very happy, thanks for reading, sending love to you all xx

  • I'm not sure why they said it's likely to be cancer (so please don't worry too much) as the solid part definitely doesn't mean it is cancer.  Mine has a complex and solid part and they're all pretty sure it isn't cancer.  Could possibly be a teratoma or dermoid cyst.  Xx

  • Thank you for replying to me. I've heard alot of people talk about CA125 and although I had 4 blood tests taken they never told me what for. I was told my ovaries showed a problem and that my kidneys etc are OK. They never ďiscussed types of cysts with me and told me they will let me know when they know. I am driving myself crazy and keep busting into tears thinking I might have cancer as I have a 9 year old and 2 other kids and a hubby who is equally as terrified. You have helped me believe that it's not all bad and there's still hope. Thank you   xx
