Worried about asbestos from a carpet i removed yesterday

So basically I removed a carpet today from my house that was fitted between 1987 and 1990 I believe the house was check for asbestos when we moved in as they found some in the conservatory but it was a very low level. I removed it without even thinking the carpet was very dirty and has foam padding and the underlay is a silver like mesh that I didn’t even touch there were no floor tiles. I just literally pulled it up it was only pinned down it was very easy to remove. Should I be worried about this? i don't know where else to go im worried sick about this.

  • Hi Ladysboys, don't worry asbestosis comes from years of exposure, working in a cloud of asbestos dust,. If you're not sure get the underlay checked out. But i can't see any reason to worry..

  • HI Ladsboys21. Welcome to the forum and Merry Xmas.

I don't think asbestos underlay was ever a "thing" in the UK although I can't speak for other countries.  Some vinyl tiles used to contain it, but they're safe enough if not damaged.

The UK Health and Safety Executive have prepared a web page showing where you might find asbestos about the house. Carpet underlay doesn't appear on that page.

    Where can you find asbestos?

As [@Billygoatt]‍ says, most harm comes from repeated long term exposure rather than accidental short term exposure.
