Found a lump in breast

Hi

I found a lump last Friday and have an appt at breast clinic on 31st. I'm 46 years old

Really strong family history of breast cancer (mum, 2 maternal aunts and 2 first cousins)..so I'm pretty freaked out at the moment.

Started feeling some pain around the nipple too. Not sure if I'm imagining it!

Can someone tell me what to expect at the clinic and how quickly I will have tests and get results?

Thank you

  • Hello,

if you can, try and take someone with you to the clinic, as it can be a lot of hanging around.

firts you will see the consultant who will find the lump and draw around it. Then it's off to mammogram and possibly ultra sound. Depending on the findings you may well have a biopsy. You may be given a good idea on what's what on the day but don't be worried if they sit on the fence....it can take a week or two for biopsy results ( mine took two)

Try and keep occupied in the meantime, and stay away from google! He will have you dead and buried!

Let us know how you get on? X

  • Hi Marlyn

Thanks for your reply. It helps to know what to expect.

I've been working myself up worrying and am trying so hard to just enjoy holidays with kids but its playing on my mind.

    Anyway another week of waiting..

Once again thank you and I hope you are doing ok

    Soobia x

  • No matter what, we will always worry. I have my first mammogram on jan 20th ( I was diagnosed Dec 17th 2018) until you get the all clear we will think of the worse outcome....

and there's something about the Christmas period that highlights everything.....

good luck love...pop back and let me know how it went? Xx

  • Thank you.. I'll update after my appt.

Merry Christmas to you and your family xx

  • Thank you for adding me to the group chat. Today I attended the breast clinic I had a mammogram, X-ray and then a biopsy, and some lumps in my lymph nodes in my right armpit same side as my my breast with lump. He said 'I am concerned' and nothing more anxiously waiting for results. Could it be cancer?

  • Hello,

sounds like they have been very thorough. It may well take a couple of weeks for the results. Try not to second guess anything...I know it's difficult but you'll send yourself nuts.

you may get an appointment in the post or a phone call, protocol differs in regions, so again, don't be getting stressed about how your given the results....

pop back and let us know how you get on? Xx

  • Thanks for the reply. I was advised I would receive an appointment in a weeks time for an appointment at the local hospital dept specialist cancer. I know it's hard not to worry can't think of anything else!

  • Hi Marlyn

Hope your Christmas went well and A Happy New Year!

Had my appt today... saw consultant, had mammogram then ultrasound. Was told to expect biopsy but then during the ultrasound she said its definitely just a cyst so nothing to worry about. I was told I could go home.

As I was getting ready to leave thinking this is all over...  I was told the doctor would like to see me again. I went back into the office and there were now 2 doctors and a specialist nurse. The new senior doctor asked if he could examine me. And then afterwards he says that they are not worried about the lump in my left breast, that is a cyst but the mammogram has shown areas of concern on my right breast! They now want me to have an MRI!

The appt could take up to 2 weeks so I'm now left hanging around worrying again.

I was really hoping I'd know one way or the other today. The uncertainty is hard to cope with!

  • Blimey, you couldn't have predicted that! Let us know what happens?

good luck and fingers crossed it's nothing.....xxx

  • Hi,

i just happened upon your post and wanted to just let you know that I had a similar experience, at the breast clinic I was being checked for cancer in my left breast, then the ultrasound showed up a nodule in my right breast. They took a biopsy and the results came back that it was "fat necrosis" dead fat!!! Can you imagine anything so horrible? But it is not sinister and they would not do anything about it. So don't despair, you, too, could have something just as delightful, horrid sounding but harmless!!

    Good luck. xx
