Im posting in the hope of receiving some advice regarding my husbands 2 urgent referrals.
He's 53 years old and has noticed blood in his urine, but also mixed in his stools (which have become looser over time despite diet remaining pretty much the same). He has told me the blood is not visible (in both) at every toilet break and the urine sample I took to the GP for him certainly didn't look bloody although a test confirmed blood, but GP said no infection was detected and so he received an instant referral to urology for xray, ultrasound and cystoscopy (the only symptoms hubby has mentioned aside from blood are frequent urinating (including at night, feeling like bladder has not emptied and a bit tired - although his job is more physically demanding so this could be unrelated)
His GP has been very vague about recent blood result stating all are 'normal' although hubby never asked exactly what was tested or print out of results and has no online access to his test results and GP never said. So in under a week he's gone from routine GP visit to a hospital appointment this Thursday (the date for urgent referral regarding blood in stool has not yet come through)
He is anxious about the procedures (the hospital have sent only a basic letter, so no further info about the tests). I suffer from severe and crippling anxiety so have not been coping at all either, especially with no one to snswer questions Is it normal to make a referral so quickly and is it because the GP really does suspect cancer? I thought there were certain blood tests to ascertain cancer markers. Also, is it likely the blood in stool and urine are related or more likely we are dealing with two separate issues?
Thank you for any info and advice you can offer in advance.
