Waiting for breast biopsy results

Recalled after routine trial mammogram (I'm 48), had magnifying mammogram, consultant said they could see tiny white chalkie bits, ultrasound then 6 biopsies taken and also cells taken from lymph node under arm.

Then 2 titanium markers put in my breast so they can see where the biopsies taken from.  Given results appointment for 18 days time, still got 6 days to go and although I am trying so hard not to worry and to keep myself busy it is really affecting my sleep.

I'm awake every night worrying and just hate this waiting not knowing.

Has anyone else been in this situation with chalky bits not a lump or cyst??

Interested to know, thank you for reading, your brave, brave stories I have read on this forum are truly inspirational xx

  • Hi

I am in a vaguely similar situation, not been described as chalky yet though.  There's "something" in LHS but we're not sure what it is yet.

I've definitely got lumps (that I can't feel) in RHS but have undergone lost of tests over past few weeks on LHS culminating in an MRI guided biopsy on Friday morning which I know will be fun.  I reckon so far, like you, I've had 6 core biopsies and one punch biopsy, told the hospital staff that I suspect they're doing the surgery (which I am having post chemo) by stealth!

You beat me on the titanium, just one for me so far.

I do think for me, a little like you, its the lack of certainty that is disconcerting but I've been quite lucky getting results quicker than many (18 days is a LONG time, think I've had to wait 10 days max).

Anyway hello & good luck for 27th - which is when I go for first blood test pre first chemo, which will be interesting...

  • I think my situation is similar.  I had my first mammogram in July I am 49, I went to breast clinic about an issue with my right breast which was fine but was told while you are here we may as well do your  mammogram.  They found Micro Calcification in my left breast which are tiny white specks I have no lump or cyst just these white specks, I also had a ultrasound and core biopsies.  But waited nearly 3 weeks for results!  As they wanted to run more tests on the samples. They have not found cancer but say I have LCIS which is not cancer but having it puts my chance of getting breast cancer up slighly.  Because they have only done a biopsy from a few tiny areas my consultant wants me to go in and they will take the area of tissue where the micro calcifcations are to double double check that everything is ok.  The wait for results was terrible but I feel positive now the consultant has given me the results.  I go in for my tissue biopsy next Wednesday and hope to get all clear.

I agree it is a very worrying time and it is hard not to worry.  I wish you the best of luck xx
