New to Cancer chat 'scared'

Hello

I am new to this forum. I have been reading the posts and found I feel somehow no longer alone.  I have not been diagnosed with cancer. I will be undergoing tests in due course. In the meantime, I am living in fear and finding the fear debilitating. I hope I can be part of the chat in this context as I don't know where to get further support having been to the GP and tried to explain to some close friends who find it hard to understand the level and all encompassing fear I feel. I am frigthened of any diagnosis and the tests which is compounding my fear,  I hope my first post is okay and in the right place.

Thank you for reading and any support would be gratefully received

  • Cats, someone mentioned cats, brightened me up. Love cats! Have two both rescue, both 'pure' tabbies, they have the black M on their foreheads. Would have more if possible. The old lady is called Toots, she is a character. The young handsome apple of my eye boy is called Beeps. As regards 'C' it is Beeps who fascinates me. From build up to diagnosis and every night since, this cat doesn't leave my side from when I sit down in afternoons on sofa until I get out if bed the following morning. I live in a rural setting and it is against natural instinct to not be 'out & about' at night, via catflap. Which is what he did before C came along. Of everything friends, NHS, my boss and people in here have done, he has been the most comfort. Cats aren't keen on being touched, unless on their terms, but thus cat allows me to hug him and cry into his fur. No protesting, he allows it happily. Having had cats all my life, it is the most remarkable behaviour I've ever seen and to me proves that pets do have feelings and can express them.  And lol, he's not being bribed with 'Dreamies' - lol.

  • Hi,

i have a choice of voices on the app, I can't remember if you get choices on the weeks trial? On the calm app Steven fry narrates ( I could listen to him all day)

sorry to hear you broke your wrist, one of my residents ( she's 87) had a fall yesterday and has broken hers in two places bless her, I was running around this morning doing her shopping. What work do you do? I'm the warden of a residential home for the elderly, it's independent living but I'm happy to help out in emergencies.

Our diva ( springer) didn't like cuddles either, she bit me once on the lip for getting too close! Sure didn't make that mistake again!

    xx

  • Hi polly sounds like you've got a very good boss, there not all like that,, we're same as you regarding food we like the good products even if it costs a little more we've tried cheaper but didn't like them (tins or packets),, don't worry i won't call you a snob not till i know you better anyway (joke) can you find anything relaxing on a radio at night or you can buy sleep aids soft light and relaxing sounds afraid no idea of  proper name, if your worried talk to me remember I don't sleep that much I'll get back to as soon as i wake up, as long as signal is OK had problems last night, again, we can talk about anything you like as long as it's not rude,, hope to hear from you soon good wishes, try to be sure of yourself, love.... • Evening Marlyn

Yes, I could also listen to Stephen Fry. There is something comforting when he talks. I looked at the calm -one week trial and there are no choices. I am going to trawl through again.

I work for the local authority as a Family Coordinator, in a nutshell I support families who have a range of complex problems.  I work with all the family to help identify how they can address their difficulties.  It is intensive work!!! Your work sounds inteteresting. I bet it can be tiring but rewarding.

Oh I say your 'Diva' -fancy her biting you. Mac has tried to take my fingers off a few times. In the mornings I have to touch him to get him to get up when it is time to go out. The growls and snarls he gives me are unbelievable. He's my boy though and I love him despite his eccentricities. Daisy on the other hand just looks at me with her big eyes. She has to be careful as Mac has gone for her at times when he is really grumpy.

I am trying to stay positive but my symptoms are giving me some jip this evening (mind starting to wander to all those what ifs...grrrr)

I have got my PJs on and going to try and relax. Candles are on.

Hope you are having a relaxing evening

  • Evening Billy

My boss is really good..she is very hot on welfare and looking after the team.  I am please it is not just me who spends more on brand name food products. My feeling is there is less waste, in my case anyway.  I am snooby about some things...but you will have to wait until you know me better and then you can challenge me :) I am going to look through the apps again as I think I downloaded the wrong one. Don't worry Billy, I have been on my own that long I've forgotten what it means to be rude (ha ha).

I am in my PJ's with candles lit. Trying hard to switch off even if it is only for a short time.

    Hope you are relaxing

  • Hello cat person. Our animals bring us such peace and comfort. It sounds as though Beeps is very tuned in to you. I agree with you, cats and other animals have feelings.  Keep snuggling and I hope you are enjoying your evening.

  • Hello Plum!

I love the sound of your cats! My little black cat Lily came into our lives when some people dumped her when they moved house..we couldn’t bear for her to be out in the cold so we took her in. That was in December, and just around the time I was starting to get symptoms and feel unwell. She became “my cat” immediately, and was very wary of my partner. We had this connection which is hard to explain. She used to sit and stare at me for such a long time and always came to me for cuddles.

Once I was diagnosed I came to believe that she had been sent to comfort me. We have another 3 cats who don’t behave in the same way. Lily was my comfort...I told her everything, hugged her and cried in her fur. She is very special to me. So I really get what you’re saying.

I bought a cuddly toy black cat to be with me when Lily wasn’t, like being in hospital,  and he comes everywhere on my trips abroad now...he has his own travel chronicles on Facebook!  I am very glad to have connected with another cat lady! Cats are incredible creatures. xx

  • Hi Polly

I’ve had a nice day today thank you-a long chat and catch up with my friend in Essex, and looking forward to her visiting for the weekend in a couple of weeks. And a lovely afternoon with Lily cuddling on my lap while we watched the rain outside.

I like the sound of pjs and candles lit..how are you feeling today? xx

  • Hi Marlyn

    How are you?

    I hope all is okay
