Hi there - here is 'my story' which I thought may help others. This site has given me much comfort at the beginning of my journey with a 'cause for concern' lump. I will soon know the definite outcome and wanted to share my hopes and fears here in the hope that it may help others. Albeit a short journey - so far - compared to many on here, I feel others in a similar position to mine will draw comfort. About 6 weeks ago I noticed a lump on my neck. Not painful at all but certainly noticeable. An appointment was made with the GP the next day. A week's course of Antibiotics was given in case it was an infection. The antibiotics made no difference. A scan was then arranged. The morning after the scan I received a phone-call from the GP saying 'cause for concern.. An appt was made at the ENT clinic. The wait until then - well, my family and I were beside ourselves with worry. The ENT specialist after doing all the necessary examinations ENT entails assured me I did not have cancer and what I had was most probably a blocked saliva gland. He arranged another scan, plus biopsy. This took place last week. This time the scan was much more extensive and after it was done the biopsy was then done. I was told by that particular doctor that I had a '50/50 chance of it being cancer'. The result will be back in 'a week-10 days'. It is the week-end now and yes, I am anxious, but I am focusing on what the ENT specialist said in the first instance. I hope my story helps.UPDATE: A few days aftet I posted this I had a phone call from the Doctor who did the ENT examination. He said the scan plus biopsy I had, did show a blocked salivary gland but ALSO THAT I HAD CANCEROUS CELLS IN TWO LYMPH NODES. TO SAY I AM GUTTED IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT AFTER BEING TOLD BY HIM INITIALLY I DIDN'T HAVE CANCER. i now await to find out what is next. I will post as and when.
