Cervical ectropion and colposcopy

I was first diagnosed with a cervical ectropion last year during pregnancy due to spotting. On two separate occasions during pregnancy two different doctors told me I had an ectropion and didn't seem worried.

6 weeks after having my baby i had my first depo shot. A week after that I have had light pink spotting on and off evey since. I went back to the doctors last week and said I have got myself really worried about cc. She offered to look at my cervix which I agreed to and she said the ectropion is definitely still there and bleeds on contact, and has referred me for a colposcopy. I am now worried sick that I am going to be told I have cervical cancer, but my last smear was in 2016 and was normal so surely things can't be that bad?

I've made myself so sick with worry that I have now been prescribed diazepam and a mild anti depressant. I just sit looking at my 2 young children and feel so worried. My youngest is only 3 months old. Cc was never mentioned during pregnancy. Really need some reassurance as my anxiety is through the roof.

Thank you

  • I am so sorry the doctors have been so un supportive, when I first contacted my GP I was referred to a Gynae consultant which needed to happen within a 2 week window I was advised.  Have you thought about going private an initial consultation varies in price but approximately £300 and they would advise you then. I know you should not have to but its an option.

Are you able to go to your local family planning clinic for a smear? May be an option.

  • Hi , I have these same symptoms. Feeling of needing to wee like a urine infection. How did you get on?

  • [@vixx]‍ how did u get on x

  • Hello,

I'm relived I have found this thread as it has been something that has been worrying me for a while now. I was seen by a doctor in March 2020 and was told it was an ectropion and referred to a gynaecologist at the hospital. My appointment is in June 2021, 15 months after I was referred. The doctor did a visual exam but no swabs etc were taken. I'm still getting symptoms and experience spot bleeding most days. I'm worried as it has been so long that it may have progressed if it was something more sinister. I am under 25 so have never had a smear. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

  • I'm sorry you are worrying me, it's such a horrible time. I have no advice to offer like a lot of these ladies on here. I'm awaiting my appointment next week with gynae. All I would suggest if you ask your GP to refer you again if you still have symptoms and are worried. No one should have to live with any symptoms or worry , June 2021 is some time ago and u think another referral is completely acceptable push for it xx

  • I had a very similar situation to this. I had a normal smear in October 2018, and then May 2020 I started to get spotting after sex. Contacted my gp who tried to tell me over a telephone consultation that it was due to the patch but i was in disagreement with her because i know my body and had been using the patch since 2017 with no problems. Spotting due to patch would usually occur within first 3months not 3years down the line. Because I was in disagreement with her she told me to keep a diary of it and the spotting became worst so another doctor called me in months later for an examination where she pointed out cervical ectropion and referred me for a colposcopy  because apparently it and cervical cancer look very similar to the naked eye.

I eventually got an appointment and when I went, OMG i cried. I thought I was dying just from looking at my cervix on the camera how the acidy substance they used to highlight abnormal areas made my cervix change colour so I knew there were abnormal areas and then the way my cervix was gushing blood when they gave it the slightest touch with their medical instruments.
I had to have three areas of my cervix removed for a biopsy and the results came back stating that I have CIN1 which is basically a type of HPV that apparently isn't likely to turn into cancer so I was asked to come back a year later for a follow up which I did in October 2021, and it was just a normal smear test. I am still waiting for my smear results (pray for me ladies) to see if the CIN1  has cleared up on its own but now I have noticed a painless lump in what I think would be classed as my lower groin area...like in between my legs in the crease between my inner thigh and my labia area. The lump is fixed and doesnt move when touched. It doesn't hurt and isn't puss filled.  I am worrying because research shows that it could be due to cancer of a reproductive organ. It also shows that it could be due to less serious things but due to my history of problems I can't help but to get worried. I am a mother of three and don't want to leave my babies.
