Cervical ectropion and colposcopy

I was first diagnosed with a cervical ectropion last year during pregnancy due to spotting. On two separate occasions during pregnancy two different doctors told me I had an ectropion and didn't seem worried.

6 weeks after having my baby i had my first depo shot. A week after that I have had light pink spotting on and off evey since. I went back to the doctors last week and said I have got myself really worried about cc. She offered to look at my cervix which I agreed to and she said the ectropion is definitely still there and bleeds on contact, and has referred me for a colposcopy. I am now worried sick that I am going to be told I have cervical cancer, but my last smear was in 2016 and was normal so surely things can't be that bad?

I've made myself so sick with worry that I have now been prescribed diazepam and a mild anti depressant. I just sit looking at my 2 young children and feel so worried. My youngest is only 3 months old. Cc was never mentioned during pregnancy. Really need some reassurance as my anxiety is through the roof.

Thank you

  • hello I know this was posted in Feb but I have just had the same and waiting on an urgent referral as we speak! How did you get on? X

  • In the end they did a urgent referral to gynaecology as there was such a long wait for colpscopy. The specialist looked and acouple weeks later lasered the ectropian and that was it. She didnt even mention cc and just said an ectropian is common if u have been on the pill for a long time or during pregnancy.i have just had a smear test done and nothing was said about anything looking sore etc so I assume the ectropian has gone. Just waiting the dreaded smear test results.

Looking back I think my hormones were so high and low due to having my daughter that I just didnt deal with things rationally at all. I hadn't even had a worrying smear result but in my head I convinced myself the ectropian was something nasty. The depo didnt so me any favours either so am off of that and much happier on the pill.

    Hope you are okay? Xx

  • My ultrasound was abnormal , 10x12mm focal area on my uterus, my uterus appears irregular and 25mm thickness. I've had extremely heavy periods , and extreme pain for a while. I'm now taking morphine because it's so bad.

A gyno had a look at the hospital and said my cervix is red raw and bleeding when touched. She said it looks like cervical ectropion. I'm waiting now on another gyno refferal for a second opinion and hopefully a biopsy. I'm 25 and have had to fight just to get to this point! Cervical cancer runs directly in my family.

I've never even heard of cervical ectropion before. But I've read it can resemble early stage cervical cancer as the two look similar so I'm panicking now! :(

  • I was told I had cervical ectropian around 3 years ago , we had been trying for our third baby, and was probably paying more attention to my cycle. I realised I had a lot of discharge a lot where bloody. So fast forward to now I have a 11 month old , but it seems to have started again , 3 times I had to go to the loo today after feeling wet (pinky discharge) and slight back side pain. I just worry as I have the ectropian how would I know if it's something else , do I go back to the doctor. Probably working my self up as my grans ovarian cancer has come back ( tested to be not one that runs in families) xx

  • Let us know how you get on?? Just try not to focus on the negatives and focus on the positives. I have a bad way of thinking the worse in every situation! Xx

  • Have you booked to go back to doctors? No harm in getting it checked out again is there. Also I'm sorry to hear about your gran. I hope everything works out ok xxx

  • I had cervical erosion treated by a laser  more years ago than I remember, probably 20? I'm here because my husband has a lump, not because I have cancer myself.

I remember the treatment mainly for the horrible liquid they painted on that was extremely difficult to remove. Wear old underwear because they are not good at getting the stuff on and you'll probably throw your pants away afterwards.

It's not quite as painless as they claim but we are women, compared to childbirth it's nothing.

  • I'm in the same situation, thick uterine lining and cervical ectropion! I'm 22 and not being listened to by my doctors at all and i'm very worried. How has this gone for you? Have you had anymore answers?

  • Hello I had my colposcopy yesterday- have you had one of these yet??
anyway she found the area that was bleeding and used silver nitrate on it- told me next time if it continues they will need to freeze it. She discharged me and told me it was completely normal and I feel reassured- xxx

  • No I haven't, I got told I have the ectropion on wednesday and they told me to come back if the bleeding continues and they will sort it. I've had cramps all day today but with no bleeding so I'm not too sure what that is down to. xx

  • Hi I’m new to this I went to dr Monday and had pains in tummy

she looked like a smear test said can see cells or ecropion is what she’s hoping

I’m going in Monday for my colposcopy I’m a nervous wreck

i always keep up to date with my smears every 3 years! I’m 43 with 3 children

im worried it cc I’m just so so worried so know how you r all feeling ‍♀️

  • Hello- I had my colposcopy she stated that most people that get sent there it ends up being ecropion. She found the area that was bleeding and applied a small amount of silver nitrate to it and said to go to my smear in January which is when it's due. If you've always kept up with your smears that's brilliant just try think positive. As humans I think we always think the worst case scenario and guess it's normal. You will have to let us know how it goes on Monday I will have everything crossed it's good news xxxx

  • can I ask did u have bloated tummy and pains ?

  • I'm so relieved I stumbled upon this thread. I'm literally in the same boat as you all and am sick with anxiety. I can't sleep and feel like crying constantly. Went to a clinic and was told I had cervical ectropion and was meant to be referred to have a colposcopy but now have to go to my doctor to be referred. I know I shouldn't but I've looked on google and ended up scaring myself thinking I have cervical cancer or cancer cells. So glad that I can read this thread and not feel as though I'm alone in feeling this way x

  • I had my son in April 2018 and am still breastfeeding! My periods returned in March 2019 and were a bit irregular to start with and I've been spotting occasionally in between, had smear in May 2019 which was clear. I went to the dr due to the spotting and she can see an erosion and wants to send for colposcopy just to check as I've been spotting!

Im worried out of my mind and feel desperate!
    Does this sound like CC???
