Waiting for breast biopsy result

Hi

I had a breast biopsy and mammogram done last week and have spent the last 6 days in complete fear of the results. After the biopsy and mammogram I was called back into a room with the doctor and a bcn to be told the mammogram was very worrying as the mass looked highly suspicious. As a 42 year old mother of 2 I have been beside myself with worry it’s been with me 24/7 and anxiety levels through the roof!

Today I got my results (I was literally crying on the way into doctors room) it’s not breast cancer, it’s a Fibroadenoma. I wanted to share this so that anyone going through this awful time can see suspicious lumps don’t always mean cancer. I also want to wish everyone good luck whatever their outcome xx

  • Hi there,

That's great news and positive to read. I am 29 and found a lump just under four weeks ago. My doctor played it down saying he thought it was a cyst and so did the nurse at my examination when I went to the breast clinic. When they then sent me for an ultrasound and then quickly said they want to do a biopsy, I burst into tears. I am booked for this Thursday for my results and I cannot sleep all that well. I just want Thursday to be here so it's done, whatever the result is.

It's comforting reading all these posts x

  • Hi,

Try not to worry I know. Its hard the week waiting I was there 3 weeks ago now. I too thought they would shrug it off but had mammogram then ultrasound then biopsy. The weeks wait was the worst bit. Mine turned out to be a fibroadenoma. It is still there are hurts now and again but I just need to keep an eye on it.

Come back and let us know how you get on it really helps other people looking for support x

  • Thank you so much emma. I am truly thankful of everyone's reassuring comments.

worrying times but this helps so much. I am glad your results were good and was all sorted.

thank you so much. I will post again after my appointment next week. x

    Hi Lisa,

I was fortunate that my biopsy was carried out by my consultant's wife, a consultant radiologist. She also did my ultrasound, so she showed me the lump and, didn't have to wait for anyone to read my scans. I then went straight back to see her husband, who immediately told me that he was almost certain that I had breast cancer. I still had to wait a week for my biopsy results and unfortunately, they wee correct. This happened on both occasions and, I initially thought it strange, until I thought about it further. It gave me a week to come to terms with my diagnosis, without having any false illusions.

However, I have heard of other consultants giving patients the same opinion , but all turned out fine when the biopsy results came back.

    KInd regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thanks Jolamime.

So sorry you had to go through that. I just have to stay positive and hope that I can deal with whatever the outcome xx

  •

    Hi Lisa,

The more positive you can stay, the better you'll get through this.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thanks Jolamine.

I will keep you all posted x

  • Hi

sorry to come on again with worry, but after reading my appointment letter again it states XR mammo guided core biopsy. I am really panicking now as isn't the x-ray procedure a stereotactic biopsy? xx

  • Hi Lisa

I'm sorry I don't know the difference between the scanning methods used, mine was guided by the ultrasound, so they could see where to take the biopsies.

I hope you are coping with the wait and get some reasurrance when you go for the biopsy.

If you have not been yet, there may be a number you can ring on the appointment letter, so someone can speak to you about the procedure.

Fingers crossed you get a good result.

    Take care Emma x

  • Hi everyone

tha k you so much for being there for comfort. I kind of feel like a fake; not intentionally of course. They re-took mammograms through magnification and the radiologist came to me and said on comparing them to previous ones all looked benign/ok.

I was kind of shocked because didn't for one minute imagine not having to have that biopsy which was stated on my letter!
i am so thankful but even more so, feel so much for everyone who has had to go through more :(

thank you so much Emma. I hope you are ok too :) xx

  • Hi Lisa

That is absolutely fantastic news !!!!

I am so happy for you, and I hope they have reasurred you all is ok now.

I felt the same when mine was benign as I was so worried and had worried everyone around me, and then it was ok

The blind panic is the same leading up to the result and its going to be reassuring for others waiting that all sorts of results can occur... its terrible that not everyone gets a good outcome, I wish they did.

I'm fine thanks... year check up was ok and another 3 years till the next... which I'm already dreading...

Have a great weekend and a good sleep, now you can relax at last !

    xx

  • Ah thank you. I know, it really does throw u into a spin doesn't it. I'm looking forward to a good night sleep and not thinking about it 24/7.

so glad your yearly check was positive! But another 3 years is good. I am sure you will continue to be strong and positive during that time. Just make sure you look after yourself. As others have said there is so much they can do now, and have come along way with different treatments. I only wished they had been around when I lost my mom with it, but we can be grateful for it for ourselves and for our children too.

you take good care and even when u have good results, I totally appreciate forums like these, they really do help ️ Xxx
