Waiting for breast biopsy result

Hi

I had a breast biopsy and mammogram done last week and have spent the last 6 days in complete fear of the results. After the biopsy and mammogram I was called back into a room with the doctor and a bcn to be told the mammogram was very worrying as the mass looked highly suspicious. As a 42 year old mother of 2 I have been beside myself with worry it’s been with me 24/7 and anxiety levels through the roof!

Today I got my results (I was literally crying on the way into doctors room) it’s not breast cancer, it’s a Fibroadenoma. I wanted to share this so that anyone going through this awful time can see suspicious lumps don’t always mean cancer. I also want to wish everyone good luck whatever their outcome xx

  • Hi there,

That's great news and positive to read. I am 29 and found a lump just under four weeks ago. My doctor played it down saying he thought it was a cyst and so did the nurse at my examination when I went to the breast clinic. When they then sent me for an ultrasound and then quickly said they want to do a biopsy, I burst into tears. I am booked for this Thursday for my results and I cannot sleep all that well. I just want Thursday to be here so it's done, whatever the result is.

It's comforting reading all these posts x

  • Hi,

Try not to worry I know. Its hard the week waiting I was there 3 weeks ago now. I too thought they would shrug it off but had mammogram then ultrasound then biopsy. The weeks wait was the worst bit. Mine turned out to be a fibroadenoma. It is still there are hurts now and again but I just need to keep an eye on it.

Come back and let us know how you get on it really helps other people looking for support x

  • Hi Jolamine

sorry I meant to ask; on the day of retest and biopsy, I know they can't give u results but do they give u any indication of what it would be? x

  • Sorry to jump in the lady doing my biopsy and ultrasound said it was either a tumor in the breast tissue or a cyst she could not tell which because of its position. It turned out to be a fibroadenoma when I got my results x

  • Oh not at all thank you so she told you that before your results? X

  • Hi yes she told me when she was doing the ultrasound that's why she did the biopsy. X

  • Did u have local anaesthetic. Thank you

  • Hi

When I had my biopsy it was a quick local injection and quite soon after, 4 biopsies were taken.

They did not hurt at all and I was told there would be a bit of pressure which they would warn me about before each one.

They then put a bit of tape over the small cut. The area was bruised and sore for a few days afterwards.

Its nothing to worry about, it won't hurt.

The waiting is terrible, and I really feel for you both at this time.  I was told at the time it was a solid lump but they could not give me any idea if it would be cancer.  In the end it was a benign tumor and was removed with an opperation within 2 weeks.

I wish you the best of luck and hope everything works out for both of you.

    Emma x

  • Thank you so much emma. I am truly thankful of everyone's reassuring comments.

thank you so much. I will post again after my appointment next week. x

    Hi Lisa,

I was fortunate that my biopsy was carried out by my consultant's wife, a consultant radiologist. She also did my ultrasound, so she showed me the lump and, didn't have to wait for anyone to read my scans. I then went straight back to see her husband, who immediately told me that he was almost certain that I had breast cancer. I still had to wait a week for my biopsy results and unfortunately, they wee correct. This happened on both occasions and, I initially thought it strange, until I thought about it further. It gave me a week to come to terms with my diagnosis, without having any false illusions.

However, I have heard of other consultants giving patients the same opinion , but all turned out fine when the biopsy results came back.

    KInd regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thanks Jolamime.

So sorry you had to go through that. I just have to stay positive and hope that I can deal with whatever the outcome xx

    Hi Lisa,

The more positive you can stay, the better you'll get through this.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
