angiomyolipoma kidney tumour?

A few months ago I started getting uti symptoms which are still ongoing. I had an ultrasound last week and it picked up a 4mm shadow on my left kidney. The doctors report said they believe it’s a angiomyolipoma. I stopped googling this shortly after I started as it terrified me with things like haemorrhaging etc. I’m an otherwise healthy 35yo woman. Has anyone had experience with one of these? I’m going to be having further tests in the coming weeks so they can rule out other things. I can’t help feeling that 4mm is really small to give that diagnosis based on an ultrasound, it’s apparently quite a rare benign tumour. I’m just really scared and wanted to see if anyone out there’s had one of these and knows anything about these/kidney ultrasounds? Thank you x

  • Hi when you had embolization of aml did your doctor say you may lose your kidney, because my doctor is saying I might lose my kidney that's the risk for embolization

  • Hi I have now decided to go ahead with embolization of my 10cm aml in my kidney but doctors r freaking me out when they saying i may ultimately lose my whole kidney that's the risks they saying I really don't know what to do  they also have slight argument leaving it alone and monitoring  please can anyone let me know what to do did anyone list their kidney while they had embolization

  • Hi everyone

I have alm in my right kidney which measures 9.5cm and its right in the middle of my kidney, doctors are advising the embolization will not work because it's in the centre,  so they saying to remove  the whole kidney,  I'm soo much worried to death about the removal of my kidney, because the left kidney might function less in the future, because I have high blood pressure,  I'm 47 years old , and over weight, got high cholesterol, please can someone advice me I'm gonna have another oppointment in one month time,

First doctor gave me an option either keep it alone and we will keep an eye on it .or remove the whole kidney, so I said OK just keep it and yiu can keep an eye on it. Soon as I said that he replied if it hemorrhage you might die, it freaked me out,  and it's only 2/3 percent. He also mentioned the risk factors of having to live with one kidney too as I mentioned above that I have these conditions. Please please can someone help me to decide thanks

  • Hi Trish7370

Sorry to bother you  I also have 9.5cm alm in my kidney as they can't embolization because its in the middle, and it's the right kidney they also recommend me to remove it ,I'm too scared what if my left kidney have its function decrease and then I will be in dialysis,  I have high blood pressure, and over weight high cholesterol please can you kindly advise me life with only one kidney my age is also 47 thanks alot

  • Hi annie456

Exactly the same thing doctors said to me last Thursday when I went to see them ,now they r recommended me to have my whole kidney removed it's freaking me out crying all day long don't know what to do, I said to doctor I'll just leave it as it is and you may monitor me ,soon I said that he said if it bleeds yiu can die omg it freaked me out so he gave me a month's time to decide   please can yiu let me know what you have decided about yours thanks

  • Annie456 doctor said if I leave it it might bleed and I might collapse or die,and if I do  embolization I will loose my kidney,  please let me know what did you decide please let me soo thank yiu

  • I am in a very similar position to most.

started with regular uti every month, have been told there’s a AML, no size has been given yet as I only had ct scan a few days ago, my main concern is I have suffered with back pain and spasms for 7/8 years and still do, this is now concerning me, also the pain is so severe on the week that I have my period, Does anyone know why this is?? I am 49 years old.

    Good luck everyone x
