Found more swollen lymph nodes

Hi guys, I posted here a couple of weeks ago about a lump that appeared in my groin. I had an ultrasound and some blood taken. The ultrasound said it was just a reactive node and the blood came back fine with the exception of my liver function being ever so slightly in the red.

Anyway, fast forward to yesterday when I went to stretch my back after being sat down for a while. I stood up and pushed my hands into my back when I noticed a small hard lump in my lower back. I had a shower later that day and found another 3 in the same area! All varying sizes and feels. They are all firm, but very moveable, they slide around like crazy under my fingers.

So I booked in to see my GP this morning. She checked them out and said they were indeed more lymph nodes. She then checked my body and found another one in my elbow. So that is now a total of 12 lymph nodes all over my body. I don’t have an infection or inflammation. She said if my blood tests in February come back fine then just leave it. But I can’t drop the feeling something isn’t right. Why am I so lumpy? There has to be a reason I can feel so many lymph nodes. I’m debating to pay myself for a one off consultation with a hematologist privately just to see what they think, because I feel I’m getting nowhere with answers at the GP. I’m tying so hard not to worry, but it’s really hard.

  • Hello niknak18,

I am sorry to hear you have had all these swollen lymph nodes and I hope you get to the bottom of this and get some answers soon.

I've just seen your latest update and that your original doctor wants to see you next Friday. It is always stressful when they are unable to tell you the reason why the doctor wants to see you but try not to read anything into it or to anticipate what it might all mean. It's good they are being thorough and investigating things properly and I hope the appointment will be helpful.

Do come back here and let us know what the doctor has said if you get a moment. We're keeping everything crossed for you.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Niknak,

I really hope they are able to find an answer and that it isn't anything serious.

Unfortunately it is entirely possible to have some kind of infection and have no other signs so be completely unaware of it.  That is, we assume, what caused me to have 8 swollen lymph nodes that stayed swollen for years.  6 finally went down, 2 are still swollen decades on.  No cause was ever found.  This is, sadly, quite a common story, I know lots of people that have had numerous swollen lymph nodes and for which no cause has ever been found.

So please don't worry yourself unnecessarily, but obviously getting them checked out is a good thing.

    Best wishes,

    LJ

  • Thank you so much for your reply. It was very reassuring. I recieved a phone call just under a week ago from the receptionist at my local GP saying that my doctor wants me to come in on Friday to discuss something, but she was unable to tell me what it was. Only three more days to wait, but my goodness is it dragging. I just want to know what they want me to talk to me about. I rang them last Friday and said that I could come in earlier than Friday if she wanted to talk to me, but she said that she specifically wanted it to be Friday. So I’m taking some relief from the fact that I didn’t have to come in immediately. I assume if something was very bad they would want me to come in ASAP, well at least that is what I am hoping.

I’ve started to be a bit more calm about the lymph node on my groin. However I can’t stop worrying about these lumps on my back. I keep finding new ones, I think I have found around 7-8 now! All in the lower part of my back and are pretty moveable and squishy, with the exception of one that feels fairly hard and doesn’t move. Some of them are fairly large. I’m just baffled as even when I google I can’t find anything that would cause so many lumps to appear in that area of my body. Ah the not knowing is terrible. I can’t stand it.
