Please help I’m so scared

Hello, I don’t know how to even start this but I’m going to try my best to explain everything. I’m 22 and completely have myself convinced I have breast cancer. I’ve experienced boils on the other boob of which isn’t causing me issues but they’ve gone down and the doctors just said skin infection. So 2 periods ago I started getting awful pain in my boob, all different types stabbing, dull shooting etc I just put it down to periods and it then started swelling and my veins become raised. I saw an out of hours GP who told me it could be blocked milk ducts or infection or just due to periods and if she thought breast cancer she would have sent me to be seen. So after my period the pain went down all seemed fine, then after a while again my period was due and I was hit with the same pain again, but this time after my period is hasn’t gone down, my boob is tender in certain areas of my tissue and I get random shooting stabbing pains. The veins are raised again and my boob just doesn’t seem my usual boob. I’m petrified :’( honestly broken. So I went to the doctors and she said she can feel thickening and also checked a lump underneath my arm that side, she said she doesn’t think it’s cancer but wants to send me on a ‘’symptomatic’’ basis. I have my appointment at the breast clinic on the 27th. Since the doctors I’ve had pains all around my shoulder, under my armpit, burning sensations and the pain in my boob. I’m constantly looking and prodding probably making it worse but I suffer with health anxiety and can’t stop myself. I don’t want to seem horrible for posting without actually having cancer but I don’t know where to turn. I’m sick with the flu to at the moment I can’t stop crying with worry and all I keep thinking is im going to leave my son without a mum, I can’t even think about saying goodbye to him. I know i seem crazy and I’m worrying before the event but I can’t help it. Please can someone help :’( edit** wanted to add I’m now getting shoulder blade pain feels like it’s bruised and may be swollen I also have what I think is prominent veins in that boob que the anxiety all over again :(

  • Thanks, my GP referred me, my symptoms are getting worse I called the GP and they said I was put as urgent and they wanted to see me sooner rather than later, I just rang up again and they have told me the wait is 6 months. I'm petrified and inflammatory breast cancer is in the family. I don't know what to do.

  •

    Hi Ama,

I am sorry to hear that you are no further forward. This Coronavirus will be playing havoc with the NHS at present, so appointments may be out of kilter. However, if you have been given an urgent appointment, you should be seen within 2 weeks. Phone your GP again and let him/her know that you have a six month wait. If you don't get any further with this, please contact PALS and get them to intervene.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi sorry for a long delay, I had breast clinic today, however I'm not happy with the results... with all thdd Ed things I told the gp all they did was ultra scan the nipple. I'm confused, can they tell just by the nipple?

  •

    Hi Ama,

I'm glad to hear that you didn't have to wait 6 months for your appointment after all. Did you have a physical examination of your breast by your consultant? Most people have 2 or 3 tests at their first appointment. This includes an ultrasound and/or a mammogram (not given to younger people) and if anything is suspected, a biopsy.

Are you sure that only your nipple was looked at with the utrasound? An ultrasound usually covers the entire breast. Your consultant may have been concerned about your nipple, which is why they concentrated on this area. Consultants see so many people with cancer, that they usually have a pretty good idea just by simple observation. However nothing is ever certain until they get the results of further tests. Have you been told when you will get the results of your ultrasound?

Let's wait until you get the results, as you may find that you need further tests after that. Don't forget to let us know how you get on.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi, no it was just the nipple area that was scanned and didn't even examine me, he did say he saw a mole developing but that's all. I just found it rather strange that with all the symptoms he only did my nipple. Can he tell from just scanning there?

  •

    Hi Ama,

I am not a doctor, so don't know what your consultant can tell by just scanning your nipple. It sounds as if he suspects something in the nipple area. Whether this is your nipple or the mole, I honestly don't know.

It is unusual not to be examined, but maybe he suspected something as soon as he saw your breast. You'll find out when you get your results. It sounds as if you'll have some questions for him when you get your results, so write them down to make sure that you don't overlook anything.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hello, I've been reading through the posts and like many of you I'm absolutely consumed with anxiety due to the symptoms I am experiencing. On Sunday morning I noticed a red blemish on my breast, roughly the size of a 5p piece, I don't know why but I googled it! Up came inflammatory breast cancer. I went to the doctors on Monday who said he thinks it's an infection and prescribed antibiotics but to go back if it doesn't clear. I've been taking the antibiotics for 3 days now and the symptoms are worse. Clearly they antibiotics aren't working. My blemish now has purple bruising around it and the rest of my breast and my lymph nodes are still swollen and have become more painful. I am absolutely petrified that it's IBC and have made a private appointment for next Tuesday. All of my  symptoms are exactly the same as those for inflammatory breast cancer. Has anyone else experienced similar symptoms? I've cried for 3 days , can't eat or function. I'm totally consumed by it. I'd really appreciate your response. Thank you, laura x

  • Hello Laura and welcome, sadly it's not where we want to be but it's a great place for support! I'm sorry about your symptoms although I'm still undiagnosed and near on 2 years later I'm having the same breast issues with no answers, I hope I can help ease your mind even a little whilst you wait for more appointments/tests etc. On reading that your antibiotics haven't worked some infections need certain antibiotics some don't work for all depending on how you respond and what type of infection it is, I'm sorry they aren't working. Have you seen a derm? I've seen many comments from others about skin conditions and a dermatologist can also do a skin biopsy which could give you some answers if you feel defeated elsewhere. Please don't let doctors phob you off you deserve answers and to be heard, we know our bodies. Although I don't have bruising like you describe I have the swollen lymph nodes and they've been this way majority of the way along and just don't want to go down but apparently they can be enlarged but normal radiologists can greatly tell on ultrasound how they look. I know just how much it can consume you, I've been taken by it for so long now, I lost my job, my friends, my ability to go out and I'm still in the same position, I'm praying for you and hoping you have answers. It really does get you down, scares you and sometimes feels like you're so defeated but I promise it'll get better once you know more, sadly the waiting game is the worst! Crossing my fingers for you, feel free to message me anytime! And keep us updated if possible x

  • Hi

I'm sorry to jump on this discussion but I was looking into my symptoms and this forum came up.
I am scared to death as I recently ( 2 weeks ago) started with severe pain in my right breast. After a week I called the doctor and he told me to take evening primrose and paracetamol and ibuprofen. I have done this but I feel like my symptoms are getting worse. I don't have the constant stabbing pain any more but my right side feels swollen tender and my nipple a bit itchy. The more severe problem now seems to be a severe excruciating pain that radiates into my shoulder, ribs and collar bone aswell as my right breast. My arm seems to go numb also. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to it as today I've been ok all day until around 5pm and then I've had severe attacks and feel so uncomfortable. I'm 38 have two young children and I'm panicking so much that there is something really wrong. I'm wondering if anyone else has had anything similar and what should I do. I'm thinking I shouldn't leave it another week as my GP orriginally suggested?

Any help would be much appreciated

  • Hello hun and welcome to the forum, I'm so sorry you're going through this, I still come on here due to my issues progressing and still having no answers. I understand it's such a scary time, it's the worst it's been the same for me but 2 years now it's tiring and I just pray others find answers way sooner! It's a good thing the pain hasn't been persistent seems like a good sign. The rest of the symptoms are very similar to mine, with the same radiating pain in my shoulder blade and other areas like you, have you looked into muskoskeletal causes of the pain? I'm looking at that route myself and with those symptoms you describe it could be something to look into, but of course with every breast / body change they tell you to seek GP advise which I agree you should do to figure out the cause, most times it'll turn out to be something less sinister that what we worry about but it's always safe to have it checked, I know it's such a hard time and the worry eats away but you'll feel better ones you get some answers. If your GP suggested waiting maybe just see how it goes but if it gets worse or anything changes maybe give him/her a call back and see what they suggest and if anything can be done. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that you find out the cause soon and if you need anyone feel free to message me. Please keep me updated x
