Please help I’m so scared

Hello, I don’t know how to even start this but I’m going to try my best to explain everything. I’m 22 and completely have myself convinced I have breast cancer. I’ve experienced boils on the other boob of which isn’t causing me issues but they’ve gone down and the doctors just said skin infection. So 2 periods ago I started getting awful pain in my boob, all different types stabbing, dull shooting etc I just put it down to periods and it then started swelling and my veins become raised. I saw an out of hours GP who told me it could be blocked milk ducts or infection or just due to periods and if she thought breast cancer she would have sent me to be seen. So after my period the pain went down all seemed fine, then after a while again my period was due and I was hit with the same pain again, but this time after my period is hasn’t gone down, my boob is tender in certain areas of my tissue and I get random shooting stabbing pains. The veins are raised again and my boob just doesn’t seem my usual boob. I’m petrified :’( honestly broken. So I went to the doctors and she said she can feel thickening and also checked a lump underneath my arm that side, she said she doesn’t think it’s cancer but wants to send me on a ‘’symptomatic’’ basis. I have my appointment at the breast clinic on the 27th. Since the doctors I’ve had pains all around my shoulder, under my armpit, burning sensations and the pain in my boob. I’m constantly looking and prodding probably making it worse but I suffer with health anxiety and can’t stop myself. I don’t want to seem horrible for posting without actually having cancer but I don’t know where to turn. I’m sick with the flu to at the moment I can’t stop crying with worry and all I keep thinking is im going to leave my son without a mum, I can’t even think about saying goodbye to him. I know i seem crazy and I’m worrying before the event but I can’t help it. Please can someone help :’( edit** wanted to add I’m now getting shoulder blade pain feels like it’s bruised and may be swollen I also have what I think is prominent veins in that boob que the anxiety all over again :(

  • Hi all, I hope this post is still going...

so I'm 37, history of breast cancer in family,  I've been having pain in left breast and should blade with clear fluid and feels heavy, I think I can feel a small lump too (not 100%) has anyone else had this too? I'm going to try see a GP tomorrow but I probably won't get 1. Hope everyone else is ok.

    Hi Ama,

Welcome to our forum. I am so sorry to hear about your symptoms and understand your worry when you have a family history of  breast cancer. I know how difficult it can be to try and get an appointment with your GP. If you explain to the receptionist the nature of your concern, she will probably try to fit you in to see a GP urgently.

Try to avoid looking at symptoms on the internet until you know what, if anything you are up against. Looking at this stage will only worry you further and worry won't get you any further forward. There can be a number of different reasons for your symptoms, so you are as well to get them checked out. I sincerely hope that nothing untoward is found.

Please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi all

So 12 weeks ago in the shower I felt a lump in my right breast, I know that boobs can be lumpy so didn't think too much of it. Then a week or so later I made my mum feel it and she said she could feel it but it wasn't a proper obvious lump, and my husband the same. Although both told me to go to docs.
So I finally went 13 days ago and she literally felt it instantly and referred me to breast clinic which is today.

    where was everyone's lumps?

mine is top section near armpit. And it's gone quite lumpy, like another lump near the main lump.

my boob feels like my milk is coming in, that's how I can kind of explain it.
what doc didn't like is that on that boob my veins are really prominent but I told her they have been like that ages.
my armpit is tender and I have a dull ache under near bicep.
    my children are 12 and 14. I am 38.

I'm apprehensive about today, it's at 3pm but not panicking.

only last summer I was bleeding 21 days a month and I convinced myself I have womb cancer as dr google told me so lol and apart from 3 polyps, lesions and loads of endometriosis all was fine so I know what it's like to think the worst for no reason.

    what will normally happen today?

    thanks all

    Hi Laurajane,

By the time you read this you will already have been to the breast clinic. I have only just come across your post, so sorry that I didn't find it earlier. I hope that you got on ok at the clinic. Did you have any tests done?

I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer 10 and 9 years ago rtespectively. I have also had a few false alarms. My original lump was in the lower right quadrant of the right breast, my second (the false alarm) was in my left upper quadrant of my left breast, close to the underarm and my third, was in the same position as my first. I guess what I'm trying to say is that they can occur anywhere in the breast or around the nipple.

You have probably already discovered that they like to check out your lymph nodes too. This is to ensure that, if there is any cancer present, it hasn't spread. I hope that you learned your lesson last year. Dr Google is not your friend at this stage as it will convince you to think the worst. If you must look things up try to stick to a well respected site like Cancer Research.

I am glad to hear that your self-diagnosis last year was way off beam and ,I sincerely hope that you are as lucky again this time.

Please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

  • Thank you, so I went to the doctor, she examined me and said that the left breast is more fuller and lumpier, I've also got pain going to my armpit too, she has referred me to breast clinic. Does anyone know how long until I get the appointment? I'm in wales.

    Hi Ama,

Most breast referrals are considered urgent and, you should receive an appointment within 2 weeks from the date of referral. It is always helpful to take someone with you to your appointments if you can. They are likely to run some tests with you on your first appointment and, you will have to wait 1-2 weeks to get the results of these.

It is especially important to have someone with you when you are going to receive any test results.

Please let us know when your appointment comes through and how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi all, it's been nearly 2 weeks and still no sign of an appointment, my breast is nearly double the original size. How long should I wait?

  •

    Hi Ama,

Wait until the 2 weeks are up and then phone the consultant's secretary to ask where you are on the waiting list. If you don't have these details, then contact your GP.

I hope that you hear something soon, as waiting is torture.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi, thanks for your reply, I'm still waiting to hear of an appointment, GP said they take them in order (whatever that means) I'm so worried... my breast is still growing, I have discharge, a lump and now my nipple is sending sharp pains. Sorry for being so blunt! I'm at a loss of what to do.

    Hi Ama,

I'm sorry to hear that you are still waiting for your appointment. Did your GP refer you as a matter of urgency? This is the norm and,the clinic is then obliged to give you an appointment within the 2 week time frame.

I am sorry to hear that your symptoms are still there and getting worse. If it is of any consolation, pain seldom accompanies breast cancer.

There ia an organisation within the hospital called PALS (Patient advice and liaison service). If you can't get any further with your GP or the breast clinic, see if they can help you.

I hope that you get this sorted soon, as I know just how worrying this waiting time is.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
