Urgent referral for ultrasound

Hi everyone, I feel like a bit of a fraud posting on here as nothing has been confirmed yet but I was hoping to get some advice/ support from others who may have been in my position. I’m in my late twenties and have had irregular periods for a long time. Not only that, I have pain whilst urinating and feel the urge to urinate. I also have post coital bleeding which has been a concern Along with other cc symptoms. I’ve had a smear and although the results aren’t back yet, I was given an urgent referral for an ultrasound which I’ve already been given an appointment for. This is all happening very fast and I’m not quite sure what to think of it, if anything at all. My main question was, what can I expect from my ultrasound? Should I be worried?

    Hi there ... theres no way you should feel a fraud ... its one of the hardest times, when we have quick appointments... all sorts go rushing through your head ... this little chat room, is what its here for... everything and any one ... theres so many here who know exactly how it feels to have to do tests ...

    But on a better note, at least you'll get things moving and you won't have to wait weeks for it to start ... and hold on lass, there's lots of things it could be ... try to keep busy as possible, live in the day... and try not to keep thinking what if ... got everything crossed for you ... let us know how you go ... sending you a big virtual hug Chrissie x

    Hi Chrissie Thanks so much for your lovely reply. I will try to keep positive as my scan is only 3 days away. I’m glad I was able to get an appointment so quickly. I’ve also been referred to a specialist so that appointment should be coming through soon as it was also an urgent referral. I will keep you all updated on what happens.     Hi there ... would like to know how it all goes as I've got everything crossed for you (and I keep falling over  ; ))    ... my tests seem to be better then I thought ... so now hopefully yours will be fine ... hold on in there .... Chrissie

    Hi Chrissie. I’m glad to hear your tests are better than you thought. I hope mine will be too. Just a waiting game now. My internal scan is in 2 days and my appointment with the gynaecologist has been booked for the following week. The not knowing is hard but I’m hopeful that I’ll be given some info on what’s seen at the internal scan? Who knows, just another days wait!

    I had my internal scan. The lady saw what she thinks is a polyp so now I have to wait for my gynae app for more information. I don’t know much more else then that! Hope you’re well xx

    Hi ... well that sounds promising .. my new lumps , the Dr thinks are "calsification" but like you gotta wait for the main Dr to look at it ... so here's hoping wer both gonna be o.k ... Chrissie xx

    An update on my current situation. I went to see the gynaecologist who suggested having the hystersocopy and polypectomy under general anaesthetic. Still awaiting smear results, it’s been two weeks (does that mean that they’re normal)??? And am being fast tracked for my day surgery so hopefully I’ll get the call soon. Then it’s another long wait for the results of the polyp removal m. Hoping it’s all normal, gynae didn’t seem worried but the thought of cancer worries me.

    Hi Happygolucky.

    One thing I have learned is that you shouldn't read anything into the timing of appointments, or whether results arrive quickly or seem to take a long time. You also shouldn't read anything in the types of test you're given, nor whether they're done urgently or routinely.  You also shouldn't read anything into the silences of doctors or nurses, nor the expressions on their faces, and there's absolutely no point in ever asking a radiographer or MRI/CT operator what they've seen.  Most of the times appointments have to be fitted in around other patients, results have to go the path lab and maybe examined by several people, and that look of shock on the doctor's face could easily be a twinge on indigestion. 

    So, of course you're worried, but it's best simply to go with the flow and let the tests, results and appointments come as they will.  Meanwhile try to get on with your life as best as you can.

    Thank you so much for your reply. That’s the best advice for me I think. I need to be patient and just carry on as normal. No point in worrying or reading into things as that in itself will make me ill. So thank you again xxx
