22 and freaking out

So I went to my doctor and explained I have this ridge down the side in my left breast I have had it for ages but after seeing a post I thought I should get it checked out , she felt it and said it felt fibrous and palpable ( I’m not overly sure what that means ) she said it’s good I’m young and no family history but she referred me to a breast clinic. I’m just absolutely spiralling and can’t stop thinking worst case scenario. I can’t sleep keep crying I know it probably seems so silly but I don’t know what to do I’m terrified for my appointment

  • Hello Summer34,

It doesn't sound like your doctor was overly worried and she mentioned specifically that you are young and have no family history but it's good that she was thorough and referred you to a breast clinic just to err on the side of caution and to make sure you everything is checked properly. So try not to worry too much - I know it's easier said than done but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be as there are so many benign conditions or explanations for this ridge down the side of your left breast. I hope that you won't have to wait too long for your appointment and while you are waiting, the best thing to do is to try and keep your mind busy with other things and to make sure you try and relax before going to sleep so that you have a restful night. We have some useful tips on our website on how to cope while waiting for news which you might find helpful and it might make you a little less worried to know what to expect so I would also recommend you have a look at Breast Cancer Now's page on what happens at a breast clinic appointment

You are not alone though on this forum going through this stress and being anxious about the appointment and I wanted to mention another lady who posted just today  who posted this thread about having her breast clinic appointment tomorrow and don't hesitate to drop her a line since you find yourselves in a similar boat. Sometimes it helps to talk to someone else who is experiencing something similar at the same time.

I am keeping everything tightly crossed for you that it all turns out to be nothing of concern and that you get peace of mind very soon.

    Best wishes,
