I can understand why you felt worried that they told you it looked higher grade rather than the low grade changes mentioned in the letter but try not to worry too much as abnormal cervical cells are not cancer and the important thing is that those changes were identified, that you have now had the colposcopy and are now in the best possible hands to get this treated once and for all. 

4 weeks is a long time to have to wait for results and I can imagine that you are feeling very anxious at the moment and that it can sometimes be hard to concentrate on other things so to help you deal with what can feel like a long wait, I thought I would share with you our helpful tips on how to cope while waiting for important news. 

I hope that reading the information we have on our website on abnormal cervical cells and on treatment if you have abnormal cervical cells will give you some reassurance and that you will get to talk to others here who have had the same before. I had pretty much exactly this experience and came back cin1 only and back in 12months.

The colposcopist was pretty much preparing me for the fact that she knew she would be seeing me again - and actually when I finally got a callback with results (I was not patient in the end & rang a day before their expected wait time was up -letter took another week after that), she remembered me and was glad to be proven wrong.

At the colposcopy the iodine solution stayed "glowing" which usually means more serious changes and she took 6 punch biopsies and was asking me if I'd been under general anesthesia before as the suspect areas were hard to reach so she wouldn't be able to burn them off without me being put under.

Anyway here is my positive story so far - the wait was unbearable, I had the procedure new years eve so awful start to the year.  I am still incredibly anxious what will happen at the 12month mark and next exam.
