Post Menopausal Bleeding

Hi

Last night (Friday) I had some light brown discharge.  There is also slightly brighter brown/red when I insert my finger into my vagina (apologies if TMI!) but no further discharge as yet.  I’m 55 years old and it’s been over 3 years since my last period.  I’m terrified it’s cancer.  I spoke to the 111 service and she recommended I get a BV test kit, which indicated trichomoniasis which as I’ve not been sexually active suggests it’s not the most accurate result.  I will phone my GP on Monday but I’m already seeing a psychologist for health anxiety so this is my nightmare come true.

I live on my own, I don’t have anyone I can talk to (friends were never really my thing!) and my family have passed away over the last few years so I’m very isolated.  I just thought it might be helpful to reach out via this forum for connection.

Thank you for reading this.

  • Thank you x

Yes off to sleep now been a long day.

    Night Cat-cat x

  • I’m so pleased to hear from you Dollysocks, I’ve been thinking of you throughout the day.  It must be such a relief to have had the surgery and such positive feedback from the surgeon-the option of a same day discharge is very impressive.  I’m so impressed with how strong you’ve been - you should be very proud of yourself xxxxx

  • Morning Maebelle. Thank you for your message not alot of sleep due to laying on my back. Worried about glue stitches. Feel tired hope to catch sleep at home. Xxx

  • I hope you’ve had a good day Dollysocks and have managed to get some rest.  Hospitals are notoriously difficult when it comes to sleeping and possibly after the relief of having the op the reality of recovery/reason for op kicks in?  It’s a major op so be gentle and patient with yourself xx

  • Maebelle only 3.5 hours sleep due to worrying about stitches. Came home slept for another 3 hours. Yes dawning on me that this isnt the end until the report from Pathology. It certainly makes you re evaluate life. Thank you for reaching out xxxx hope you are ok x

  • Dollysocks , glad you are home  and can get more sleep . I have never been able to sleep much the few times I have been in hospital . Look after yourself and take time to recover .
I hope that you get your pathology results through soon x

  • I am fine Maebelle . I have a GP’s appointment which had already been scheduled for  Monday . So if I don’t get my letter through by then,  I can ask my GP to chase up the hospital appointment then .
what about you Maebelle , any updates for you ?

    • Thanks Cat-cat. I am trying to relax. Drinking lots of fluids. The agony over appointments and procedures I feel for you. Its a stir crazy time. Hopefully, the ball should get rolling.
    • I really hope by Monday you get some information. Fingers crossedxxxx
  • Hi Dollysocks ,

how are you doing ? Hope you have managed to catch up on some sleep . Do you have any updates re results ? Hope you are able to take some recovery time before going back to work . I think there is obviously the physical recovery but also the emotional toll of waiting on test results etc . The latter is very substantial too .

After some nagging from my best friend I phoned my GP for an update yesterday . I got them to check , they didn’t have anything on file other than the urgent referral to the hospital . I got the details of the department . No soft soaping of the ward name - Cancer Gynaecology.
When I phoned them they were a bit vague , yes urgent referral . No idea of time frame , a letter would go out in July . But they then phoned back 2 minutes later and due to a cancellation , have appointment  for Monday 6 July . Which is good as week before a family holiday  and was worrying about that .

    xx
