Scared after seeing on my NHS app the words 'suspected gynaecological cancer'

Hello,

I went to the Dr about 3 weeks ago after some bleeding in between periods and lower back pain.

Had a blood test done on Tuesday, which came back as abnormal. My CA125 result was 43. I spoke to the Dr and she said she would do a fast track referral for a scan and to see a gynecologist. The scan date has come through for 28th May.

I am really scared after seeing on my NHS app the words 'suspected gynecological cancer'. I am 42.

  • I have had an appointment through for my hysteroscopy on the 26th. He is going to try and do it with me using penthrox, have never heard of it! But not sure I will be able to let him, will wait and see x

  • I just googled it and it sounds like a form of proper pain relief so fingers crossed you find it works for you. In the setting I was in there was no pain relief offered apart from a bit of local anaesthetic in the cervix and I was told to take paracetamol an hour before the appointment. As I said the lady in before me had the procedure and managed fine and my GA was due to my ablation. Also if you decide it’s not going to be something you want to do absolutely just ask for a general. They were very clear to me that I didn’t have to have the hysteroscopy then and there at my consultant appointment but in a way I’d wanted it over and done with but hadn’t realised the extent to which my ablation would cause problems getting the camera in. Best of luck for yours and again I think these chats are so helpful and the next people who come into this situation will be able to gain information on it :-)

  • Thank you, yes I am so pleased I found this forum!

I will try it. I remember having the local anaesthetic when I had a colposcopy  about 10 years ago and just remember uncontrollably shaking as I reacted to the adrenaline. They kept telling me to be still, I tried telling them I couldn't help it!

Sorry for TMI but I had an upset tummy yesterday, that hasn't happened for so long! Was a bit of a mission doing the school and preschool run.

Hope everyone is ok, we have lots of rain here today x

  • Hello just an update from me. My results came back non cancerous but no other information. Obviously I’m very grateful but the wording was a bit ambiguous as to what happens now. This is what was written…..

I am writing to inform you of the results of your recent endometrial biopsy. I am pleased to let you know that the biopsy showed benign (non-cancerous) cells of the lining of the womb (endometrium). There was only a small amount of tissue which made assessment for other causes of bleeding difficult, and therefore we would advise you to attend again if any further bleeding.

You have been taken off the two-week wait pathway…..

My chat with the consultant prior to my GA hysteroscopy seemed to suggest that as my scan showed hyperplasia I would require a follow up but it’s not been mentioned so not really sure what to do. I read that the coil is a good option for adding progesterone. Anyway I’ve made a gp appointment for next week to ask these questions.

Hope everyone is doing ok x

  • Hello, thanks for letting us know how you are getting on.

Well that is such good news that it isn't cancer. But yes, that must be confusing after being told that there would be a follow up. I am glad that you have an appointment next week. I hope that you get answers then.

Ok here thank you, have mine next Friday, and as it stands I am going to have it done with penthrox. Hope it is enough! He had said they could maybe scan again on the day and see what the lining is like.

My Dad has ended up having a colonoscopy today, really hope everything is ok!x

  • Hello, gosh it’s been a busy week but wanted to come on and say I hope everything goes well for you on Friday. I now have a consultant follow up appointment on 21st July so hopefully I’ll know more of what’s next. Hoping your dad’s results are good too. Do let us know how you get on x

  • Hello :)

Aww thank you so much for that, will let you know how it goes. My mind has been so shifted, as unfortunately it was not good news for my poor Dad :( he found out at his appointment, and told me Friday Just waiting now for his appointment to find out next steps, and the results of the CT scan they did on Weds. I am so sad. Just praying it won't have spread x

  • Oh gosh I’m so sorry to hear that, do look after yourself as it’s a lot to process alongside what is going on with you too. Sending lots of good thoughts your way xx

  • Thank you so much, much appreciated ️ hope you are getting on ok xx

  • I hope you got on ok on Friday. Was thinking of you x

  • Thank you so much  sorry for the delay!!

Thankfully the penthrox was amazing! It did the job, I fully zoned out so he was able to do the biopsy. He said everything looks ok, no polyps so he is expecting the biopsy to be absolutely fine which I am so pleased with.

My poor Dad has got a surgery date of the 22nd so to be honest I have hardly thought about anything else.

    How are you? Xx

  • Ah excellent! Glad it went well! Hopefully your dad’s surgery will go well too.
oddly I’ve had a letter from the hospital cancelling my follow up appointment on 21st and saying I’ve been taken off so I don’t really know how to feel about that. I did want some answers/information so I guess I’ll speak to my gp. Hope your results come back quickly and all is well with your dad x

  • Sorry for another delayed reply  all is fine, just so busy with the end of the school year and the heat! It is pretty unbearable isn't it!

Oh that sounds very harsh to just cancel. I would be exactly the same, you must have things you wanted to discuss :( have you managed to speak to the GP yet?

Thank you. Haven't had the results from my biopsy yet. All I can think about is my Dad. Praying the surgery is successful, and the recovery is ok. They told him he will have an MRI after it x
