Scared after seeing on my NHS app the words 'suspected gynaecological cancer'

Hello,

I went to the Dr about 3 weeks ago after some bleeding in between periods and lower back pain.

Had a blood test done on Tuesday, which came back as abnormal. My CA125 result was 43. I spoke to the Dr and she said she would do a fast track referral for a scan and to see a gynecologist. The scan date has come through for 28th May.

I am really scared after seeing on my NHS app the words 'suspected gynecological cancer'. I am 42.

  • How are you? How did the MRI go? Hope you are ok x

  • Hi Lisa83. Went today. Was a long wait time. Get the results on Wednesday. We are both up at silly o'clock lol. Hope you are ok x

  • Haha yes, I woke about 3am and just can't go back to sleep :/ I will be glad when the weather cools down a bit.

Sorry about the long wait :( it is hard waiting for results isn't it. I am ok thank you. Had my internal scan yesterday, so think I get the results on Thursday when I see the gynaecologist again.

Hope you are able to get a bit more sleep! Sunrise soon, I am tempted to just stay up now x

Hope you managed to get back to sleep. The whole process is hard isn’t it. I was the same the night after my internal ultrasound and gynaecologist appointment a week ago as my mind wouldn’t stop panicking. Oddly I’ve been sleeping ok this week but I can feel myself getting more anxious as Monday gets closer for my general anaesthetic hystroscopy. I had my preop on Wednesday for blood tests, questions and an ecg. I’m not going to look at my blood tests results until Monday as I know if anything is up on them I’ll just spiral over the weekend. I do wish we could just do all the tests in a day and get the results the same day too as it’s the unknown that’s the hardest part.

  • I'm going away for the weekend then back to work Monday hopefully, a massive distraction. Speak soon x

  • Hope you have a nice weekend. X

  • Hi - I am in the same boat - I saw exactly the same words on my app and somehow seeing it in writing has sent my anxiety rocketing. I hope you are ok (as much as you can be) and I think coming on here is a smart move, and can be helpful to know you are not alone with it all.

I have to have a hysteroscopy and biopsy and also have been fast tracked.

I hope everything goes well for you and I guess at least you are being proactive - I always think it is better to know as you can get treatment early and have good outlook.

Just want to add, I had an Auntie who was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was quite young - She had 5 daughters and feared she would never see them grow up - she lived well into her 70's and died of a stroke a few years ago - she lived life to the full, so she is a positive story, amidst what is a worrying time, but I just wanted to share as it might help.

  • Hello, I hope you are doing ok too. Anxiety is absolutely normal but definitely stay away from Google as I really spiralled doing that although easier said than done. Find what works for you to help your anxiety for the next few weeks, mine is walking outside, and be kind to yourself and put yourself first. I found it really helped hearing about the process from others on here too. This is where I’m at.
I had a period like bleed 2 weeks ago on a Friday afternoon that lasted 4 days after not having had a period for 15 months. I got referred on the Monday morning.  I’m 2 weeks into the process and have my hystroscopy under GA tomorrow. One pro active thing I did that helped was phone up for cancellations daily. I’d been given a date by the nhs to see a gynaecologist within 4 days but my ultrasound scan wasn’t until 9 days after seeing the gynaecologist and having read up about the process I realised that the gynaecologist likes to know thickness of lining from the ultrasound before  doing further tests. I’m fortunate as my local hospitals come under the same trust so I said I’d go to any of them and after phoning up first thing, middle of the day and end of the day I finally got a cancellation for the ultrasound the morning before seeing the gynaecologist that showed my lining was 4.8. With that result the gynaecologist did try to do a hystroscopy however decided it would be better to do it under general anaesthetic as I’d had an ablation around 10 years ago so that’s tomorrow.
I hope everything goes well for you, this forum really does help :-)

  • Hi Lis83,

The problem with the NHS app is that we get to see everything and no-one has updated the inter-doctor messages to make them less scary or to add context.

The missing context is that 94% of people sent down a “suspect cancer” diagnostic pathway are found NOT to have cancer.

    Good luck
    Dave
