Investigations lump in breast

Concerned had a biopsy to take cells from lump due to mammogram and ultrasound showing signs of shadow and concerns the lump is dense. Had a marker inserted to show where the cells were removed for biopsy. Back at hospital soon. Family history of 2 previous members with breast cancer. Fearful of what’s next. Been told that it’s good I came when I did and they will discuss what’s next at the next meeting.

Since the biopsy I am anxious, worried and in a daze. All sorts running through my head as what to expect. I was asked if I had someone with me, thankfully I did. My mind has raced to its going to be cancer, but the reality is I haven’t been told until the results are confirmed or not. It’s the way they told me things I felt alarmed, but I know they have to be truthful and prepare you for the in case it’s cancer scenario.

I want to know what to expect if it is, what’s next.

My breast is swollen and bruised and feels heavy. It is tingling with pain on and off and just feels uncomfortable and a little itchy. Is this common, what are the symptoms?

Thank you.

  • Also find a hobby. I learnt arts and crafts and puzzles during treatment. I read novels too.

  • Thank you I do like a bit of craft and art which I haven’t done for a few years.

  • My results today showed I have Invasive Breast Cancer stage 2 grade 3 with oestrogen positive progesterone positive and HER2 receptor positive. My lump is measured at 4 cm with some dispersed but in the left breast. They have said due to my age they would offer chemotherapy for 6 months followed by lumpectomy and then radiotherapy treatment. So looking at 9  to 12 months of treatment. They plan to take 2 lymph nodes out as well. I have to have injections at the same time as chemotherapy due to blocking the receptors. The plan is that I need CT and MRI scan as well as a heart scan, and they want more tests and an appointment with oncologist and to start the chemo very soon within 3 weeks they hope.

  • Ok my results are stage 2 cancer measuring 4cm, grade 3. Invasive breast cancer triple positive. So the consultant advised a 12 month plan of 6 months chemo, the at 9 months operation and then the radiotherapy with the hope to be clear at 12 months. Going through different tests and scans. Had CT scan, next is MRI on Monday. Then following these are heart scan and wig clinic as well as oncology to discuss chemo.

  • Hi

i unfortunately got my diagnosis last Tuesday. Triple positive invasive cancer of left breast size 4cm confirmed with some small bits dispersed off but in the breast still.

action plan is to have chemo for six months then wait 3 months to be ready for operation then to have radiotherapy for last couple of months and then he hopes I am fit again.

Been a shock and difficult week. Hoping you’re ok. Take care x

  • Hi BoxStar2014 I am sorry to hear of your diagnosis.  When are you starting chemo?  I had 4cm tumor in left breast and had lumpectomy first, have quite large breasts.  Then had chemo and then radiotherapy.  I am sure it has been a difficult week for you.  Big hugs.

    Lee x

  • Hi Lee

Thank you, it has been up and down but I am remaining positive. I worry about my loved ones, it’s hard for them too. All I need is them to be with me through this, it’s their in abundance but my hubby feels it most. I have said we need to do it together, I need his strength for me and the kids.

I am at my first oncologist appointment on 26th May to find out. I am being offered chemo first to shrink the tumour and to ensure they stop it growing so fast. They believe it’s my best option as it will shrink the tumour so he can take less breast tissue in theory. I have triple positive invasive stage 2 grade 3. They hope to start in June for 6 month treatment. Then surgery will be most probably early into 2027 followed by the radiation treatment.

It’s a scary thought, and I have to have an injection when I receive chemo re the  HER2 + which I have been told needs injecting into my thigh when receiving chemo at the same time.

I think my worst dread is how I occupy myself during treatment. I am not a reader, tend to spend time on my iPad lots, so will have to find something new!

where are you on your treatment, was it recent or is it complete? Hope you ok now.
