Fast track referral

Hi, I’m struggling with some anxiety since I had an ultrasound yesterday. I have had some post menopausal symptoms and was initially referred for a uterine ultrasound. The results have shown some concerns and I’ve now been fast tracked to Gynaecology.

I’ve had symptoms for a while and my mind is completely working overtime! I know it will not help, I just feel I’m struggling to manage it.

I’m really nervous about having a hysteroscopy and biopsy and hoped there may be some advice on what to expect.

  • Hello Bexxx,

It's completely understandable that you are suffering from anxiety since you had your ultrasound. It's good that you have had your post menopausal symptoms investigated but it must be hard for you to be dealing with this time of uncertainty, to know that results have shown some concern but not knowing exactly what is going on. Being fast tracked will hopefully mean you will be seen quickly and I hope that you will get some definite answers soon.

It's normal to feel like your mind is working overtime during this period of uncertainty and it will be a time when you may feel like you are struggling with everything. I thought I would share with you these helpful tips to help you cope while waiting for important news. There is information on our website on the hysteroscopy and womb biopsy which I hope you will find useful and which will tell you more as to what to expect.

I hope that you will hear from other members of our community who have been in a similar place before and who have been fast tracked for similar reasons and that they will be along shortly to share their experience with you.

    Best wishes,

  • hi bex
I had polyps , and had them removed totally awake. usually they do this with a general but i opted for a quick 1/2 hour outpatients procedure .
If you are being knocked out for it don't worry at all you'll not know a thing and after you might feel a bit uncomfortable and might get a bit of bleeding after, not usually much or for long

If you are having it done whilst awake
Try and relax and concentrate on your upper body
You might feel a whoosh of dizzy when they inject your cervix with the numbing stuff which they do to relax the cervix and put the hysteroscope into the womb, you don't feel any pain there's no nerve ending in your womb I had polyps scooped out the lining with a thing like a melon baller basically and didnt feel a thing but you will feel them pressing and moving the tools about inside you which can be a bit heavy and dull achey feeling but not like sharp pain
The nurse said some women cant tolerate the procedure but I was fine, if you can allow yourself to not not tense up from fear or embarrassment you'll fair a whole lot better. the biopsies usually take about 2 weeks to get results
I took pictures of my 2 polyps in their little jars and I was laughing with the dr about the 2nd one being my younger and it didnt look anything like its older sibling for 2 yrs previous. I had a very thick womb lining and  had been break through bleeding and biblical flow periods approaching menopause between age 52 and 56 ( still going at 57) nothing was cancerous or pre cancer i got just told I had too many hormones for a woman of my age.
But if you have all the tests you're mind will be at rest and they can look at other reasons Good luck hope its all over soon

Hi Mandi, thank you so much for replying, sharing your experience has helped so much and really put my mind at rest for a few of my concerns. I’m just waiting for my appointment and will be relieved when it’s all done.

I’ve read quite a few negative experiences people have had and hearing about a more positive one makes a difference.
    many thanks.
