Colonoscopy

Hi every one I’m due for a colonoscopy on Tuesday I’m feeling really scared don’t really feel.upto the procedure as I really suffer with stress and anxiety but I know I need to do this  I have been feeling as if I need to poo but some times it’s just reddish pus and feeling very gassy but because of feeling I need to poo I’m always in the bathroom , been having problems for a while now. I thought maybe I just had internal piles but when I went to my gp doctor couldn’t see or feel any thing so did a fit test which came back positive  so I was referred for a colonoscopy  I’m so scared of having cancer  not looking forward to the bowel prep  I think your all a lot braver than me   Xx

  • Hi

I had a colonosphy at the beginning of December , I'd recommend to be sedated, it's not as bad as you think it will be

Also with the bowel prep stay very very close to a toilet, I actually lost 3 Ib overnight

  • I had gas and air and didn’t feel any pain. The worst part is the emetic they give you to drink and the consequences of that, its nothing you cant handle and definitely not worth being scared or stressed about. Good luck with the results, i had chemo for a few weeks after.

  • Emetic ???  used to promote vomiting..

The laxative [prep for colonoscopy] ...

I was given double prep as my first appointment had to be rescheduled bcoz I was still in the bathroom 30 minutes b4 the appt time...

Making sure you follow the advice in regards of drinking plenty of water worked fine for me...

I was given Midazolam and Pethidine via IV the usual practice for my Colorectal Consultant .. unfortunately the waiting time for colonoscopy results is 18-20 weeks in my Health Authority...

For anyone waiting for a colonoscopy,  please relax ..

  • Hi tango lovely to hear from you,  I  think James had an appt yesterday... good luck with the ♀️. Wednesday often done pre- op to check lung capacity along with iron infusion when bloods are on tge low side.

I call the secretary to my Colorectal consultant every couple of weeks  [ her advice]  to check if results are back from pathology...told on Wednesday they are back and waiting to be seen by consultant.. next step he reads them, dictates a letter to me and then I will finally know.. hopefully within the next couple of weeks  been a long 15 months...

Take care, stay strong and positive,  sending love to you and James4000 xx

  • Eastendgirl. Not looking forward to the fitness thing as I do have asthma so I’m not as fitt as I used to be   I told the consultant I don’t go out much if at all but he wants me to go out for a walk so I promised him I would at the weekend  not too far as I’m always needing the toilet   Hope it’s not too long before you see your consultant and things move a little faster for you  my thoughts are constantly with you my friend  is there any way we could swap phone numbers as I would really love to talk with you I feel really connected with you your a real lovely down to earth person. Please except my apologies  if I’m been too much regarding phone num  as I do understand  xx

  • Tango...you were reading my mind, been thinking the same thing for a while now.. not sure how we go about it without posting it here for everyone to see  have to  about it some more.. no apologies tango xx

  • Morning all

Good to hear from you as always.

I think there is a way to "friend request" other people on here so maybe any of us could use that function to then message one person directly with contact details- I'm not sure what the protocol is on here.

I hope you get a clinic soon. If they're saying the results are back, I'd think you will.

Hope the appointment goes well. I've been told being as fit as we can be does help. But I'd think it's all relative and not the only factor.

I had a clinic with a surgeon yesterday and whilst it's all still very daunting, he was great, very personable, knowledgeable and most importantly reassuring. If course the treatments and surgery have some risks and some unknowns, but he was very confident about the outlook for me, which is a great relief. He also told me to try eating other things again and that he isn't particularly concerned, in my case, about a blockage.

I have a clinic with the oncologist on Monday, when she will detail a plan for chemo and radio. I'm obviously stressed about that, but I know many people on this forum have gone through it, can advise and reassure.

I also have a 2nd opinion coming with a clinic next Thursday at a very well regarded hospital. I'm very fortunate to have access to that. My local NHS hospital has also been great.

Feeling a little better in my mind. Up and down days, but better than I've been in the past week, since a good meeting with the surgeon.

  • James4000 hi James glad things went ok for you  I know what you mean the whole process is daunting  but we know all this is the way forward on the road to recovery  my consultant also said is to eat more things now as he assured me I won’t get impacted  he said there is enough room to have BM so I’m trying to eat a little better  my iron levels are border line so I will be having iron infusion it doesn’t take long to have one then maybe I might feel a little better and not as pale   I’m so pleased James your feeling a lot better than a few days ago  my consultant asked me about my mental health how I was handling it all  I just said I’m finding it hard but I try and think positive     It we know it’s hard  all the best James. Xx

  • Hi James glad to hear your appt went well,  having a positive connection with those dealing with our health issues has such an impact,  I've always thought..especially on our mental wellbeing..

Be thinking of you next week,  hope the appts are not too overwhelming xx
