Colonoscopy

Hi every one I’m due for a colonoscopy on Tuesday I’m feeling really scared don’t really feel.upto the procedure as I really suffer with stress and anxiety but I know I need to do this  I have been feeling as if I need to poo but some times it’s just reddish pus and feeling very gassy but because of feeling I need to poo I’m always in the bathroom , been having problems for a while now. I thought maybe I just had internal piles but when I went to my gp doctor couldn’t see or feel any thing so did a fit test which came back positive  so I was referred for a colonoscopy  I’m so scared of having cancer  not looking forward to the bowel prep  I think your all a lot braver than me   Xx

  • I’ve just asked for gas and air I’m really dreading it. Every thing you read about the bowel prep I’m dreading that as well just hope I can tolerate it all

  • I felt fine after, they say not to drive after sedation, didn't feel drowsy after either, my outcome not good though, I even done a bowel screening test 3 months before that came back as all ok

Been fast tracked through, I start Chemo next month

So glad that it has been found by colonosphy other wise the outcome would not have been good

  • The bowel prep isn't pleasant. I'd recommend having some Sudocream because my backside really hurt after...well, going to the toilet and wiping a lot.

Like Readytobeat, I felt fine afterwards. I did have sedation, but wasn't drowsy, though I did forget weird little bits here and there. VERY strange, like I remember going in to the recovery room and seeing one of the other women who'd been in the waiting room but I don't remember HOW I got into the recovery room, if I walked or was wheeled in or what. I walked home from the hospital afterwards. We were having trouble getting a taxi and I just finally said to my mum, who was with me, let's just walk. Because I felt fine.

Readytobeat, sorry you had bad news. Hope the treatment goes well.

  • Thank you, going to be a long year ahead but I'm ready to kick it xx

  • I had gas and air and didn’t feel any pain. The worst part is the emetic they give you to drink and the consequences of that, its nothing you cant handle and definitely not worth being scared or stressed about. Good luck with the results, i had chemo for a few weeks after.

  • Emetic ???  used to promote vomiting..

The laxative [prep for colonoscopy] ...

I was given double prep as my first appointment had to be rescheduled bcoz I was still in the bathroom 30 minutes b4 the appt time...

Making sure you follow the advice in regards of drinking plenty of water worked fine for me...

I was given Midazolam and Pethidine via IV the usual practice for my Colorectal Consultant .. unfortunately the waiting time for colonoscopy results is 18-20 weeks in my Health Authority...

For anyone waiting for a colonoscopy,  please relax ..

  • Eastendgirl  hi. Just thinking about you and wondering how you are going on hope your ok.  Got a phone call yesterday  I have to do a test like peddling a bike to make sure I’m ok for the operation   I have the exercise thing next Wednesday. And I need a iron infusion as my bloods are border line    Haven’t heard from James  hope he is ok too.  Lots of love to two of my lovely friends xx

  • Hi tango lovely to hear from you,  I  think James had an appt yesterday... good luck with the ♀️. Wednesday often done pre- op to check lung capacity along with iron infusion when bloods are on tge low side.

I call the secretary to my Colorectal consultant every couple of weeks  [ her advice]  to check if results are back from pathology...told on Wednesday they are back and waiting to be seen by consultant.. next step he reads them, dictates a letter to me and then I will finally know.. hopefully within the next couple of weeks  been a long 15 months...

Take care, stay strong and positive,  sending love to you and James4000 xx

  • Eastendgirl. Not looking forward to the fitness thing as I do have asthma so I’m not as fitt as I used to be   I told the consultant I don’t go out much if at all but he wants me to go out for a walk so I promised him I would at the weekend  not too far as I’m always needing the toilet   Hope it’s not too long before you see your consultant and things move a little faster for you  my thoughts are constantly with you my friend  is there any way we could swap phone numbers as I would really love to talk with you I feel really connected with you your a real lovely down to earth person. Please except my apologies  if I’m been too much regarding phone num  as I do understand  xx

  • Tango...you were reading my mind, been thinking the same thing for a while now.. not sure how we go about it without posting it here for everyone to see  have to  about it some more.. no apologies tango xx
