8cm Complex Ovarian Cyst with CA125 of 51 - Absolutely terrified!!

I posted on here a few days ago after I found out unexpectedly that I had a large complex ovarian cyst. The consultant thinks it could a dermoid cyst but can't determine this for sure and is sending me for an MRI scan. In the meantime, my CA125 has come back raised at 51!!! I'm postmenopausal which just adds even more risk into the mix and I just feel like the odds are stacking up against me. I've had no symptoms and only got checked out because of a tiny amount of postmenopausal bleeding. I'm all over the place.

  • Hello jembers, I wrote on your first post as I also have an incidental mass very similar.
when I had my CA125 test I was told it is very likely for a raised amount even if only a cyst as it can signal other things like pelvic inflammatory. The levels can be in their hundreds just on a period so actually the fact that you went to the docs with some post menopause bleeding might actual explain the higher level.

when is your MRI? I am also awaiting mine, I had to have further bloods taken on wed and awaiting my MRI now. 2-4 weeks.
    more waiting…..

    keeping everything crossed for us!

  • Hi cloudy1986, thanks so much for checking in with me, it means a lot. I've been given an appointment for 23rd December (Merry Christmas!!) I'm clearly on an urgent 2 week wait due to the nature of my cyst, my age and my blood test results. It's very hard not to fear the worst. I'm trying to remind myself that my situation could be completely benign, but due to my terrible habit of googling, I've convinced myself that it's something terrible! I am genuinely sending as many positive thoughts to both of us as I possibly can. X

  • I'm hopefully being released today! My white blood count is back to normal so the injections worked well. I'll have them included in my next round of chemo so I can avoid a repeat!

Looking forward to a night in my own bed x

  • Ah, those symptoms are similar to mine after my op. I was terrified for a couple of years they'd got it wrong.

My gynae oncologist had me back to tell me the news when I was clear because she said she loved getting to. There must be a real burden on the system if it's taking so long to simply deliver good news.

  • Oh, I so hope you get home well tonight! Hospital is a necessary evil at times but so much better to have our creature comforts x

  • Thank you Lyns, that’s actually so helpful to hear because when I have googled I don’t seem to find much about pains after a couple of weeks.
I am very grateful my GP could login somehow to the hospital and see it, as I have been worrying with the symptoms after. she said I should expect a letter in a month or so, so I guess it does show you how slow the admin side of things are. I did think that it was hopefully benign as it was taking so slow but nice to have it confirmed.
the poor nhs is on its knees, I’m so pleased when I read people are still getting great care.

  • Oh good, so glad you are back to normal. Enjoy a good sleep tonight back home x

  • Glad you've finally got some answers. I emailed my doctor's surgery to ask if they had any updates and received a reply to say that they had not received any further correspondence from the hospital since my operation in July! I'm now wondering why it has been marked as "Past" if they haven't even seen my results yet? I was told that if I wanted further information, I'd need to ring the hospital and speak to my consultant's secretary. I'm not overly concerned, but it just seems a bit *** that they can't offer me any info, especially when your GP was able to log into the hospital system and give you an answer there and then! X

  • It’s very frustrating not to be able to close that chapter isn’t it. If I had not been going to see the GP I likely won’t have heard for another month she said. The gynae unit or the docs surgery didn’t have results back, she said she was an A&E doc and was doing a placement at my surgery. I’m not sure she didn’t login to something special that day because no other GP I’ve seen have done that and the gynae when I called still didn’t have my results this week. I think she logged into the hospital records themselves and they haven’t been dished out yet.
shame that it feels luck of the draw based on the doctor you get! Fingers crossed it won’t be long. I’m looking forward to seeing how long until my letter arrives. X

  • That’s great news! Was a long time to be left in limbo x

  • Heh lovely, I am doing ok… I think! Chemo no 4 on Monday and so far so good though I guess I don’t know till they do more scans and tests but I haven’t felt that bad .. they changed  my anti sickness on the last cycle and that seemed to help… roll on 2026 x

  • Hey, just to demonstrate how closely our situations have been aligned, I was out walking with my husband this afternoon, when my phone suddenly pinged. It was my long awaited histology results, confirming that they had removed two normal ovaries and fallopian tubes, plus a mature teratoma! So happy I've got the answers I was hoping for, but still here to listen to everyone still in it! Thanks to everyone who has kept coming back and offered their insight and support. You have no idea how much you have helped! X
