8cm Complex Ovarian Cyst with CA125 of 51 - Absolutely terrified!!

I posted on here a few days ago after I found out unexpectedly that I had a large complex ovarian cyst. The consultant thinks it could a dermoid cyst but can't determine this for sure and is sending me for an MRI scan. In the meantime, my CA125 has come back raised at 51!!! I'm postmenopausal which just adds even more risk into the mix and I just feel like the odds are stacking up against me. I've had no symptoms and only got checked out because of a tiny amount of postmenopausal bleeding. I'm all over the place.

  • Sorry to hear this. It must have been a shock after all this time to get this diagnosis. Good luck with your treatment. Look after yourself and keep us updated X

  • I’m so sad to come on here and see your sister passed away. So young. Glad she got to be at home. Sending hugs to you and yours :(

are you managing to stay strong and well with your own treatment?x

  • Jeh oh my goodness I’m very sorry to read you have cancer again. After all your surgery etc and they removed further benign lumps and this one was still there! It sounds like it’s trapped in a cage in your body from your description.
what does treatment look like for you? Will you get further surgery?x

  • Thanks cloudy! It's a big shock and I'm still very confused.

I'll start a combo of carbo/taxel with avastin at the end of the month then onto a maintenance drug for as long as that works.

Surgery isn't possible as they've opened me up so much but never found this lump which is frustrating.

She's said it isn't curable but it's controllable so fingers crossed I'll stay that way for a long while yet.

Mentally I'm still reeling from it and I guess I will be for a while. X

  • I bet, you must just be all over the place mentally. That just sounds so confusing, even I have so many questions, I can’t imagine what you feel like.
it sounds like it’s been slow growing even though they have noted it as 3c so I’m very glad that it’s going to be controlled. What a shock for you. I hope you are doing nice things and have things to look forward to at a time like this. Be kind to yourself. Sending lots of hugs and well wishes, be thinking of you x

  • Thank you. Yeah we're trying to book a v last minute holiday next week if we can get some dog care.

I just don't understand why they didn't do the simple biopsy back in January. It feels like even though it was cyst like and next to an ovary they just considered cervical cancer recurrence. So weird but my ca125 was low and I didn't have symptoms matching this stage of ovarian cancer. I still don't!

My aunt got the same diagnosis but hers had spread throughout her pelvis, she couldn't get out of bed, she lost loads of weight etc whereas I still wouldn't know it was there otherwise. Hers was BRCA negative.

Anyways, in chemo we trust haha!

To add to the insult both my wife and I lost our jobs last month so we lost our private health insurance last week. You couldn't write it.

Oh Jeh, I hope you and your wife's storms settle now and you are in for some fairer weather. Long may your tumour surprise the doctors. I hope it cowers before chemo and I hope you both fall into better jobs and that you remain well enough to live spectacularly through any treatments you receive.

Tbh my CA 125 was also low, 63 I think but I don’t have high grade serous… mine is mucinous, weirdly my sisters was high grade and she was tested from BRCA when she had breast cancer as she was triple negative..you will be fine I know x

  • Yes had 2nd chemo Monday and Joanne’s funeral yesterday!

so far I feel ok , but I am on carboplatin and think that’s the least worst but I have a little issue with kidneys so need to drink more water!

    xx
