8cm Complex Ovarian Cyst with CA125 of 51 - Absolutely terrified!!

I posted on here a few days ago after I found out unexpectedly that I had a large complex ovarian cyst. The consultant thinks it could a dermoid cyst but can't determine this for sure and is sending me for an MRI scan. In the meantime, my CA125 has come back raised at 51!!! I'm postmenopausal which just adds even more risk into the mix and I just feel like the odds are stacking up against me. I've had no symptoms and only got checked out because of a tiny amount of postmenopausal bleeding. I'm all over the place.

Ah, I thought you meant today. I'll be keeping everything crossed.

Mine wasn't as big. Was over 10 cm and there were two of them one on my left ovary and my right ovary was basically a large cyst which made them think it was metastatic but both were benign. It must be so hard when you have your sister to concern over too. My partner already had his diagnosis when I was worried about my potential one and it's a weird thing to have to deal with. My mum got her endometrial cancer diagnosis whilst I was waiting on biopsy results. I really wish noone had to deal with this headspace. The waiting is so hard. Just keep as distracted as you can. I found the McMillan centre at the hospital really helpful a couple of times when I was melting down. Mine was too big for laparoscopic surgery and there was two to remove so I had a perpendicular incision but the scar is no big deal.

My fault on the dates, heads a little fried this week! Thanks so much for replying it means an awful lot, Joanne had breast cancer in 2021 and now ovarian do it’s been a journey .. cancers are unrelated too so she is super unlucky … of course seeing what she has been going through has just caused more stress! Fingers crossed for a complex cyst x

  • Yes mine is a beast! I guess women can carry a baby so there is space but it’s now displacing everything so my tummy looks about 9 months along!

yes my sister was told it wasn’t curable but that there were options, she’s just finished 15 weeks of weekly chemo and they are now trying hormone therapy to see if that helps stop it growing, just seems that everyone is touched by it at the moment doesn’t it

my sister has been really good and trying to convince me it is just a cyst as she had loads of fluid in her abdomen but we just have to wait and see

my appt next week is just first one with consultant will keep you updated xx

  • Heh ladies, so I had my 1st meeting with the consultant yesterday - she is concerned by what the CT shows and I am now to be discussed at next weeks MDT - she thinks Operation will be at Coventry which is so disappointing as my sisters experience there was awful! (another story!!), I have an ultrasound booked on Monday so I guess now its just a waiting game - hope you all have a lovely weekend x

Sorry I didn't check in yesterday. I did think about you but was very occupied. My partner's got a new lump so we're worried and I was chasing appointments etc.

I'm sorry you're being offered a hospital you have little faith in. My op went well at my local hospital but the after care wasn't great. Was glad to get home.

I've still got everything crossed for you. Through my partner's and my own journey I know that doctors predictions and concerns aren't infallible. They just give you the best information they can.

I hope you can enjoy your weekend despite all the weight of things to worry about. Distraction is key xx

Sounds like they are taking it seriously which is good. I hope you can plan in some nice distractions amongst all the appointments and no doubt worry! Go really easy on yourself and stay away from Dr Google!

Hope you get your operation date and some answers soon x

oh no I am so sorry to hear that - my sister also has elevated levels this week so its very worrying!! Cancer is so ***! Yes my sister had her operation at Coventry and it was awful, the after care was non existent and 3 weeks after they released her she was admitted as an emergency at Worcester to have her entire wound re stitched (they glued it and it all split open) - that doesnt help my mood lol - yes I will try and enjoy the weekend - hope the news re your partner is positive hun - sending virtual hugs x

I'm keeping everything crossed for you and also for Lyns21. It must be an extremely worrying time for both of you. Cancer and the threat of cancer is such a hideous and evil thing and it's indiscriminate nature just seems so unfair. I'm wishing it as far away as possible for all of us. Try not to reassure yourself with Dr Google. I always think it will make me feel better, but instead if tends to frighten the pants off me! XX
