Waiting Biopsy results

Hi everyone

Very new to this site.. it's currently 4:42am and im laid in bed with my mind racing.

I had a sharp burning pain a few week ago coming from my upper outer breast area which made me have a feel around.. i found a lump straight away from the same area. I went to my GP as soon as i got back from my Holiday and got reffered for 2 week wait. I went to my appointment yesterday and i had ultrasound test to which then turned into a mammagram and biopsy.. she did two areas where the lump is and just abover under my armpit.

I then saw the consultant who was not positive at all and told me to start thinking of the worse.

Im 33 years old with a 2 year old and not handling it very good at all. Please can someone talk to me.. give me positive stories or breast cancer.

Or did this similar situation ever happen to anyone before and the results turned out benign? Im thinking of my daughter more than anything, she needs her mummy.

Thank you for taking your time to reply.x

  • Hi GL91.
A very warm welcome to our forum. I am sorry to hear of the situation you currently find yourself in. Waiting for results is one of the hardest time of our cancer journeys. Unfortunately, it is impossible to determine how your results will turn out. I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer, where the results were not favourable, but I have also had benign results , with similar symptoms.
it is only natural that you worry for your daughter at this stage -we all do. I had my 2 bouts within a year of each other and feared that I might never live to witness my 2 children reach their milestones. However, that was all 14 years ago now and in that time, I have seen them leave school, go to university, graduate, find gainful employment, marry and provide me with 2 beautiful granddaughters.

Cancer treatments have come a long way in recent years. They can be a challenge, but they are “doable” and whatever the outcome, you will get through this.

Have you been told when to expect your results? I hope that they come through soon. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

Keeping my fingers crossed for good news.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • I have an appointment for this coming thursday.. thank you for your positive story! I really need to hear these positive stories. The waiting is truly the worse! I mean i am dreading thursday but also just want to crack on with it all treatment etc if it is that.

On my letter i recieved it says its a 2cm with subtle nodularity ridge- it does not mention any other findings. I had mammagrams and ultrasounds also.

Thank you so so much! Xx

  • Hi GL91,

I am delighted to hear that it's not long now, until your appointment. Believe it or not, irrespective of the outcome, you will feel better once you know the results. Here's hoping that, if it is cancer, you have caught it early. Don't worry about the crying. This is common at this stage and shedding those tears is a great stress reliever. Please let us know how you fare on Thursday.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Yes I agree with Jolamine. It's the waiting and not knowing which is worse. I took the biopsy result better than I expected and just wanted to get on with the other tests and get a plan in place. Do let us know how you get on on Thursday.

Jolamine thank you for sharing your positive story. That's what I needed to hear as I prepare for my op tomorrow. I hope I am as lucky as you and get to see my girls' milestones too! I keep telling myself you've already had the worst news all the rest will  be better and so far it's bee  true. My liver MRI just showed cysts and there were no genetic abnormalities in my blood results so fingers crossed.

  • Hi RedRuth,

I shall be thinking of you tomorrow and hope that all goes well. It is good that you have caught this early and that you have no genetic abnormalities. I had cysts on my liver too, but have continued to monitor them over the years and there has been no change.

You are so right about the power of positive thinking. It is not always easy to remain positive in such circumstances, but it'll make all the difference to your recovery. You'll also find that it helps to surround yourself with positive people. There is no room for negativity in these situations.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thank you for the positivity. Sorry that you are going through this too.. our babies will keep us strong! I had a really bad day yesterday i feel so scared and alone in it even if i have support from my family. I get the results tomorrow i just want to go in and know my plan and get cracking on with it. Good luck with your operation today xx

  • Thank you Jomalime. I'm just glad it's done now. Feeling much more normal after a couple of hours. I was feeling quite faint after I woke up and for a few hours. Thank you for your good wishes. I've found this forum a source of strength and positivity.  Xx

  • Hi GL91,

I shall be thinking of you tomorrow and hope that it all goes well. I am sorry that you experienced such a bad day yesterday - we all have them. No matter how good your support system is, or how much reassurance you're given, this is your problem and you will have days like this. However, our imaginations always make things seem worse than they actually are and you will deal with this,  whatever the outcome.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi RedRuth,

I am delighted to hear that your surgery is behind you and that you're not feeling too bad. Many of us react in different ways, following a general anaesthetic, so I suspect that this was the cause of your faintness. Did you have to have much reconstruction?

You will find this forum very helpful, as you travel your cancer journey. Keep in touch.
