I had my internal scan today. No pain or real discomfort with that and it was done in 10 -15minutes. I then saw the consultant who said I have a polyp but also the lining of my womb is thicker than normal. I’ll need a hysteroscopy within the next week to 10 days. He said the positives are that I have presented to them early on with my symptoms and that I have had 2 vaginal births. The negatives are that I am overweight and that can cause an increase in oestrogen which can increase the thickness of the lining of the womb which can cause cancer. He said I would have a hysterectomy if cancer cells were present. I’m terrified as I heard one of the sonographers say ‘66’ to her colleague and if that was the thickness of  the lining, 66 mm is very, very high! (Might have been another measurement though!)

I feel worse now I think than I did before. I know there will be lots of waiting now which is so hard. 

Hi WiseOwl. I had virtually the same experience today at my appointment. The scan was l as t week but the results were explained today when I was meant to have a biopsy but they’ve decided a hysteroscopy next week instead. I’ve got a thickened lining plus a polyp. I’m a bit overweight too. They said I could have gas and air for the hysterectomy and/or (?) a local anaesthetic which sounded good to me. I was relieved by the results as I thought at least it’s only one polyp and according to google, just 5% of polyps are cancerous. One step at a time. It’s good to be being looked at by specialists. Sending hugs. I feel exhausted tonight and I’m sure I’ve gone into flight or fight mode in the background on what ifs. Hope everyone else is doing ok? 

I would presume that the pathology labs doing the screening of bipsies must be under a great deal of pressure as they’re not only dealing with our biopsies but also everyone else’s too including routine requests. Some people have said their results didn’t come back for 4 weeks or more. We're all with you. Deep breathes. With regards to how we will be told I have no idea I’m afraid until I get to that stage. It really is a worrying time for us all I know that but try to do something you enjoy. A walk, a hobby, a movie. Keep your chin up. Remember the advancements in this type of cancer are way better and a lot of women actually survive stage 4 cancers of the womb. Chin up. You got this xxx

I asked my consultant why it took so long. She said the process is so intense. They shred the sample to the thinest of layers and every single layer has to be scrutinised. She said they just cant allow for mistakes and this is what takes the time. They have to be exact, no room for mistakes as its someones life. I got my biopsy  results in 2 weeks and my histology results from my hysterectomy was 3 weeks. 

I phoned the hospital where I’m due to have my hysteroscopy and have left 2 messages but no one has got back to me. I finally got through to them today and asked when I might get a date for the procedure. (The consultant at my scan last week, said I expect I’ll see you next week.) The receptionist said they are waiting for more appointment dates to be released. This has been the longest week! I’m trying to keep busy, but it’s so difficult. And then I’m thinking if the consultant thought it  was something really bad, he’d have requested a more urgent appointment? Honestly… your head runs away with you doesn’t it?! Meanwhile I’ve had 2 people tell me how awful they found the procedure, which is adding to my anxiety!  

Oh ***! I’m dreading my results!

Hello I also have a Hysteroscopy on Thursday. Went to my gp last Thursday because of 2 days of brown discharge I’m 48 and my periods stopped 2 years ago. Had a scan yesterday showing thickened lining of 6.1 mm so suspected cancer, had a call today  to say my Hysteroscopy is Thursday so much happening so quickly! Good luck with yours  

Good luck to everyone with hysteroscopies this week. I’m going to have everything I’m offered including local anaesthetic into cervix  gas and air and will take naproxen ( which I take every day anyway) and paracetamol. Thinking of everyone! X

It definitely feels like life is on hold, the waiting for results is driving me mad and I only had the Hysteroscopy done 3 days ago! 

Hi. I'm Scotland too. Been waiting over 7 weeks for my biopsy results.  I'm 56 and overweight and told my polyp had suspicious areas and endometrium was thickened.  This waiting is awful.  Can't sleep and concentration coming and going. Hope you get answers soon.

Hopefully you don't have too much longer for results, the waiting is the worst, we make up all sorts of scenarios in our heads, even though we try to remain positive.I am still waiting for hysteroscopy date, will be 3 weeks tomorrow since transvaginal scan, so hopefully will get one soon.I have even started thinking if I hadn't said on my appointment day that I had needed local anaesthetic for a mirena coil years ago (for heavy bleeding) that I might have been offered the hysteroscopy that day. 

Gran21 hope you get the hysteroscopy soon. The scan and the hysteroscopy happened quite quickly for me.  I assumed the results would when sent as urgent. When I called the secretary she said they are told not to chase results under 19 weeks but as mine was urgent she would call.  Someone from cancer services then called to say not to worry that she was phoning as didn't mean cancer and that biopsy was at outside lab and she was chasing it.  That was 10 days ago and nothing yet.  Hope you get appointment soon x

Hi Sharon, I’m 57, overweight and had bleeding and a thickened endometrium. My results came back negative, which is a huge relief. Proof that it doesn’t have to be bad news. Now, something is causing the bleeding so we still need to get to the bottom of it. Good luck with your journey xx

Thank you.  Was told polyp suspicious.  I'm.afraid I'm all out of positiveness after 7 weeks.  Losing hope along with my mind at this point
