Coping with the wait!

Hi, just wondering how anyone else has been able to cope with waiting for test results.  Have been told I have cancer but waiting for biopsy results to determine whether it's lymphoma and if so what type.  The waiting is so frustrating and upsetting and I feel like I'm on an emotional rollercoaster.  I try to keep myself busy and to avoid researching - although that's quite difficult at times.  Sometimes it's hard to stop my mind wandering to worse case scenario.  I'm sure that there are lots of you in the same position and wondered if you chould share how you are dealing withi it, or just confirm that what I'm going through is perfectly normal :)

  • Hi I’ve received a letter in the post for a telephone appointment with my GI consultant on 20th March . Telephone not face to face to discuss recent tests and results. Apparently they do not have results from biopsy of histology yet and I am not sure whether that is good news or not . The endoscopy said a diagnosis of hiatus hernia and gastritis and to continue current medication. I am on esomeprazole 40mg per day . It also said there was possible Barrett’s tongue and a biopsy taken to rule that out . Evidence of cancer - No . I wonder why they take biopsies then unless it is to check samples of the oesophagus?
just hoping then that all will be well. I have a son with Aspergers who is worrying himself sick about all this and I cannnot reassure him for the time being but fingers crossed

  • Another wait then.

The feedback you got regarding no cancer must be a relief.

Perhaps you could send a message to one of the nurses on here about why they might take a biopsy in respect of Barratt's tongue.

Hope your consultation on 20th March goes well.

Just FYI - my friend has just been diagnosed with a hiatus hernia and gastritis after having a gastroscopy. Not nice but not cancer.

  • Oh my x seems like a letter of mixed news x good news no cancer though which must be a relief.  As Sharza suggested perhaps submitting a question to the nurses on here might give you a bit more clar y.  More waiting now until your next appointment but at least you have a date to work towards and can count off the number of sleeps

Take care and stay strong and hope your son isn't finding the waiting too distressing too x
