Swollen Supraclavicular Nodes

Hi, I’m 50 and have a lump in my left armpit. I went to see the gp last week who said it’s a movable lump, 4cm in size and has referring me for an ultrasound scan. When I got home i realised I hadn’t shown him my neck. On both sides my supraclavicular nodes are both swollen and noticeable. I took a picture and sent it to my gp, and he’s arranged a telephone appointment with me this Wednesday. Has anyone else experienced issues with their Supraclavicular nodes and what was the outcome please? im tired and waking up at night in a sweat but not drenching - assumed it was menopause related although that had stopped as I had started HRT couple of years ago. Any advice help or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks

  • Hi I have swollen supraclavical nodes on my left side, first noticed in dec, went to doctor , bloods showed no infections. has a US showed a node of 11mm with irregular outline and increased vascularity. to be repated in 8 weeks, he wasnt qualified to do a biopsy so none taken. The 8 week wait is messing with my head. meanwhile 1 lump is now 3 with an additional growth that doesnt feel like a node. I am bricking itbut hopefully only another 3 weeks to go .

  • Hi MrsLilly I can understand why you’re so frustrated and the wait feels like forever. Would you consider going back to the gp, to show them the new lumps and request a biopsy? Seems a long time to have to wait. Keep us posted and sending positive vibes.

My gp rang me this morning - he assumed I had one lump in my neck and said he thinks they’re just fatty lumps (the one in my armpit and in my neck) but I explained I have matching neck lumps either side, identical. Surely they can’t both be fatty lumps? But strange. Anyway i hope he’s right. Seeing him first thing so he can see them, so will see what he says.

  • well i had second US nodes had shrunk  but there is about 6 i can feel .so was left at that. Then 2 weeks later I can feel another enlarged node, Monday to doctors for bloods which have shown no sign of infection. Back next Monday to discuss further

  • Hey! I hope you’re well, I was just wondering if your GP got back to you on what it actually was? Currently got the exact same as you have, lump on my left side x

  • Hey! So mine turned out to be a fatty lump, It doesn't bother me at all and I forget it's there all the time! It's in the worst place which is why it panicked me so much! Try not to worry like I did, I made myself very ill from stress!

  • I can't believe that this has been left like this for so long, they should at least biopsy or MRI so it can put your mind at rest! Good luck for Monday, fingers crossed all goes well

  • Thank you so much for your quick reply. The area is the worst place I agree, google agrees too! Are you able to move yours about? You can’t see mine, I can only feel it cause I know it’s there!

  • Yeah mine is very moveable to the point that they struggled to see it on the US because it kept moving! My neck didn't swell either, I can just feel it under the skin

  • Mine is exactly the same, I’m 28 so I’m hoping age is on my side! I noticed it 2 days ago and I’ve already got blood test next week and scan in 4 weeks. I’m lucky that the hospital near me is super quick! Fingers crossed everything is fine, it’s so hard to not worry!

  • Glad they’re continually testing you but understandably all this waiting and not knowing is frestating. Please let us know how you get on- will be thinking of you.

  • Hi Laurenjess, how are you? I’ve had quite a lot of tears, so had all bloods done - all were normal including TSH.

Had an ultrasound which showed enlarge right side thyroid lobe and a prominent IV lymph node in the short axis. Said the thyroid was heterogeneous throughout. Then I saw a ENT consultant who was qquite dismissive and said there was nothing wrong and that my thyroid antibody test which I was about to get the results for would also be normal - he was wrong.

My thyroid antibodies TPO test came back this week showing it was abnormal and levels were raised. ive hust had a chest X-ray today as im also experiencing a dry cough, breathlessness, and tightness in my neck and throat area, and still have this awful fatigue.

  • Fingers crossed for you! I know it's so hard but try not to worry yourself to much, I made myself really ill and ended up in a&e. Do you have any other symptoms?
