Is 12 week wait for results of removed mole normal on NHS?

I had a mole removed a month ago and I was told it would take 3 weeks to get the results. It’s been 4 weeks and I haven’t heard anything so I called up and a nurse told me that there is a 12 week wait for results.

I know the nhs is stretched but this seems quite long for cancer testing. It makes me think that the results are unusual and they have sent them off for further testing.

Does anyone have any experience with this? I’m feeling a bit worried.

  • I’m the same, had a mole removed from side of foot in March. Suspected melanoma, was told results upto 8 weeks. I rang in the week on the 8 week date to be told results are taking longer than usual and to expect them by 10 weeks now. I’m slowly loosing my mind as I approach 9 weeks of nervously waiting. I’m Wolverhampton west mids.
