Is 12 week wait for results of removed mole normal on NHS?

I had a mole removed a month ago and I was told it would take 3 weeks to get the results. It’s been 4 weeks and I haven’t heard anything so I called up and a nurse told me that there is a 12 week wait for results.

I know the nhs is stretched but this seems quite long for cancer testing. It makes me think that the results are unusual and they have sent them off for further testing.

Does anyone have any experience with this? I’m feeling a bit worried.

  • The wait time is going up :( I was told 8 weeks.
im now at this stage (this week) and was told by my gp surgery yesterday, that the labs nor the hospital have released any results yet or sent out any letters. This system is so cruel.
the new fds system certainly does not work. And has no benefit to patients it seems

  • I hope you get good news soon xx I feel I've left appointments without asking questions I wanted to ask like why are they removing instead of monitoring? I did get an appointment for removal within 3 weeks. My mole was on my back, I'm just worried as I know I haven't checked it properly because of where if is. First nurse I saw told me to check every 2 weeks when I can't see it properly?
