Sinking in breast when lifting arms

I'm originally from the UK but living in Ireland at the moment. I noticed last Thursday when getting out of the shower that when I raised my arm I got a dent appear at the bottom of my left breast.

I wasn't sure if I was seeing things so I asked my partner on Saturday if he could see it as well. When he said he could, I went in to panic mode.

Unfortunately the health care is shot in Ireland and we haven't got a GP so I had to go and see an out of house on call doctor. Luckily I was seen that afternoon (Saturday) and I was seen by a doctor and a nurse. Both got me to raise my arm and immediately said, yes you need to be seen.

We spent the best part of Monday calling clinics in Ireland that will accept a letter from an out of hours doctors and luckily found one to be told that the wait is 6 weeks unless the nurses deem it necessary to bring you in early.

A letter arrived yesterday asking me to go for my appointment next Thursday and now I'm not sure how to feel. Happy I don't have to wait but also scared they feel I need to be seen. I've had a right wobble today.

How does everyone else deal with waiting. Has anyone got puckering as well?

  • Hi everyone, thanks for the wishes for today.

Bad news I’m afraid, so they say I have stage 2A breast cancer but still awaiting my receptor results, they got me in now though because I go on holiday next week and need me to do do a pre op assessment. They have provisionally booked me in for a lumpectomy on 12th Oct 2 days after I get back from holiday (although that depends on the receptor results). They will also do a nipple biopsy (as the lump is really close) and take out 2 nodes to check. So that’s where I am at the minute :( xxx

  • So sorry with your diagnosis. I was also giving the news last tues , Altho if they told me what stage mine was, I missed that part .but nothing in nodes that they could see on scans at this point .    I am also awaiting receptor results but I did have to go for an MRI 2 days after getting my biopsy results.  So now just waiting for results from them and hopefully get a surgery date x

  • Hi jacksonjet, sorry to hear your sad news.

to be honest I asked about the stage, just to help me understand a bit more.

they’ve not mentioned an MRI but they have booked in my surgery, they said better to have it booked in and they can just change it if my receptor results say I need chemo etc first.

    keep us updated :) xx

  • Hey Lebell,

you’ve been in my thoughts recently - how did everything go today?

hope you’re doing ok - sending love

    xx

  • Hi everyone,

    thanks for your messages.

I spoke to my breast care nurse today as they were hoping to have all of my receptor results back, however they only have one back and waiting for the other 2. The one they have is my oestrogen receptor which is negative, so they are now saying I may need Chemotherapy first rather than the surgery they had booked in :(

hoping to have the rest back by the end of tomorrow so that I can know for sure before my op assessment which is booked in for Thursday…don’t really know what any of it means I was driving home from work when she rang so couldn’t fully concentrate.

Does having chemo first mean it’s a bad thing or good I’ve no idea.

I now know it’s stage 2 invasive ductal Carcinoma

hope your all doing better than me haha xxx

  • Lebel

I will send you a friend request to try and explain to you in more detail is that ok ? Xx

  • I hope you are able to get some more answers soon. I have often thought when reading through posts that I don’t understand what it all means. I hope they are gentle with me when I get my results on Thursday, as I don’t want to be in the position where I feel I don’t know what’s going on. Sending love - there’s so much for you to take in- it must feel overwhelming xx

  • Hi GoonerGirl,

If you don't understand anything you are told on Thursday, don't hesitate to ask. Sometimes we are so bamboozled by all the medical hype, that nothing makes any sense otherwise. Are you taking someone with you to your appointment? It is always a good idea to do this. Write down any questions you have too, as it's all too easy to forget something important in the heat of the moment.

I shall be thinking of you on Thursday and I hope that nothing untoward is found.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Lebell,

I am sorry to hear that you are still waiting for the rest of your results and hope that they are back for tomorrow. It's not necessarily the news that you wanted today, but you'll get through it. Look at this as a blip in the road - a tough few months, then you'll be good as new.

I'm sure that Laraj has explained what it all means, but if you have any questions, we are always here.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thank you- I did get a diagnosis, but everyone was brilliant and explained everything really well. When I had finished with the doctor I was taken to another room by a reset care nurse who chatted to me for a long time and gave me a lot of information. She was lovely and I can contact her at any time for advice etc. I feel much happier now I know what’s happening.

  • Oh Gooner. I'm so sorry to hear that. Have they spoken to you about next steps already? You'd like to think with science nowadays, there would be a way if getting results quicker. Even waiting a week feels like a crazy amount of time. You're in my thoughts xx

  • How was your pre op today Lebell? Is it tomorrow you're off on holiday? Xx
