Endometrial cancer

Hi,just be glad of any info or advice concerning endometrial cancer.

I'm in my very late 50s,finished my periods two and a half years ago.

Had a very unexpected and heavy period lasting five days.

Was referred for a scan and told my endometrial lining was 5mm,

I then had to have a vaginal scan which confirmed that the lining was 5mm.

My GP wasn't unduly concerned but gynae nurse insisted they arrange for me to have a hystercopy,

thankfully I'm having that with a general anaesthetic within this next month.

I'm just wondering if this is a fuss over nothing?

From what I've read a 5 mm lining is not particularly severe?

I'm tempted just to cancel the appointment when it comes through.

It's been a rough few weeks with a whole series of tests not to mention two bouts of shingles,

I'd just like to put the whole thing behind me.

Thank you.

  • I am waiting on the same but my lining is 12 mm i would imagine from what I have read that you have nothing to be worried about and that your dr is just double checking as they should investigate any post menopausal bleed xx good luck

  • I hope you get a date soon.

The waiting is the worst thing.

I've had a series of tests recently including a colonoscopy for a separate condition and then the whole gynae thing.

I'm convinced the stress has caused two bouts of shingles, and have now reached my limit.

I do appreciate the importance of these tests but have run out of steam.

I hope all goes well for you.

  • The good thing about having it done whilst you're awake is at the end they can pretty much tell you if they saw anything worrying or not they told me as soon as it was over that they couldn't see anything nasty although they did take biopsies and a polyp but I felt assured it would  be ok and it was .

  • Thankyou yes I will and I got something to relax me hopefully that will help and then take the ibuprofen’s before hand

  • Thanks Jenny I never thought of it that way it would be great to find out straight away as I think it’s the waiting is the worse… glad everything was ok for you

  • At least whilst you're awake you can judge their expressions I couldn't stand to wait weeks or longer for a G/A then wait weeks for results as you say that is the worst ,I would say by Friday you'll pretty much have a good idea one way or the other ,the quicker the better at least you can then get on with other things .

  • Tks Jenny

I didnt think I would get any results on the day I thought I would still be waiting so that’s good to know

  • Please let us know how it goes.

    Good luck.

  • Hi Mary. great news that you have an NHS appointment so soon. I am having to pay for a private consultation because I could have been waiting weeks for an initial Gynaecologist appointment. I had a TV ultrasound on Tuesday and my uterus lining was 5.3mm but I have had no bleeding but other symptoms like frequency and urgency of urination and my stomach has hit a lot bigger.  Hoping that he will then arrange a hysteroscopy and biopsy through NHS as some of the prices to have this done privately are ridiculous. Can I ask if they did any blood tests such as CA125. Thanks

  • Hi Jow,

I didn't have any blood tests at all,

I had what I thought was a period for five days(I'm 59 so was unexpected),

I mentioned it to my GP who tried to examine me but there was still too much blood, sorry for gross information.

She referred me via the two week rule,

I had an appointment for gynae following week, they did a ultrasound and a vaginal ultrasound,

she said lining was 5mm so would need hystercopy, biopsy and a smear( thankfully under general anaesthetic).

I think I first reported bleed at beginning of September so fairly quickly though have been warned biopsy results are five weeks.

Like you I am bloated, peeing a lot more and period pain( without bleeding).

I had bowel issues too but that has been diagnosed as diverticulitis.

I hope you do manage to get sorted via NHS,

my daughter paid for private health care via work and it has cost a lot.

    Take care and good luck.

  • Hi Mary

tks - I had it don’t this morning all seems to be ok they said obviously have to wait on the biopsy result but from what they could see nothing untoward- my coil had actually slipped right down and was dislodged so I think the bleeding was probably due to that .
Best of luck to u - keep in touch xx

  • Thanks for your reply Mary, from what you have said it sounds like the coil could have caused the bleeding. Fingers crossed that the biopsy results don’t show anything. It is good that you have been seen so quickly. I have been quoted around £3000 for a hysteroscopy so will have no option but to wait for an NHS appointment. Good luck Mary.
