Urgent referral for breast lump

Hi all,

I’m new here, hope you’re all doing ok - thanks for reading my post.

it’s 2.40am and having real trouble sleeping at the moment as the panic has set in - I’ve been ok up until now.

I noticed some lumpy areas in my left breast and got an appointment last Friday at the docs, who have referred me to the breast clinic under the 2 week period (still awaiting an appointment).

in 2021, I found a lumpy area in my right breast in the inner lower quadrant and had a ultrasound which revealed it was a lipoma. I mentioned this to the doc last Friday who didn’t examine this breast. I have now realised that what I assumed was the lipoma in the same area is now possibly an additional hard lump and I’m now worrying myself silly - I don’t remember the lipoma feeling so hard but have assumed for a long time it was the original lipoma.

I know it’s worth awaiting my appointment at the breast clinic  rather than going back to the doctors as they can’t do anything, it’s just trying to manage the anxiety and the horrible spiralling thoughts.

please let me know if you have any tips for handling the worry for anyone else in the same boat - thanks for reading my early morning ramblings!

love to you all x

  • Hi goonergirl how you getting on? I’ve not had an MRI yet but having it when I get back from holiday, I’ve noticed whilst here I’ve now got another area of puckering, a bit further up from before, surely it can’t spread that fast, hoping my MRI doesn’t pick up anything different than before xx

  • Hi Lebell,

I’m fine, thank you. Just back from my MRI- I quite enjoyed having a lie down for 45 mins or so! If it hadn’t have been so noisy I would have had a nap!!

The MRI is nothing to worry about in itself. You basically lay on this bed with your boobs hanging though a hole, and they give you headphones with music of your choice from YouTube (or that’s what I got, anyway!) and then they just get on with it while you lay there. I had a cannula put in my wrist which they come and injected a fluid through in the latter stages- it helps them to get a better image apparently. It was all fine xx

  • Glad it went ok today. When do you get results from MRI?

  • I may need to buy one of these beds! XD Both my boobies have been sore since the mammograms/biopsy, I love sleeping on front and that's not an option at the mo. Best of luck with the mri results and good luck to everyone with appointments or starting treatments soon x

  • I don’t know- I think once the doctor gets them and checks what’s going on and that nothing is different, they’ll book me in for surgery. I can’t imagine it will be long x

  • Oh no- I’m sorry you’re suffering after the biopsy etc. I’ve still got impressive bruising from the biopsy 2 weeks later, but didn’t have any pain from it. The worst thing about the mammogram was being forced into really awkward positions and I had really sore shoulders and neck for a few days from that.

I did read that I’ll have to sleep on my back for 2 weeks after surgery- I have no idea how that’s going to happen as I just can’t sleep like that. I wake up as soon as I roll onto my back!

  • Hi, oh that’s good then I’ve never had an MRI before I might get a bit of peace lol, how long does it take?

just had my HER2 receptor result back (still waiting on the progesterone) I’m HER2 and Oestrogen negative so it’s looking highly likely I’m going to be triple negative  (sad face) which means 12 weeks of weekly chemo (even sadder face) think my MRI is being booked for Tuesday the day I get back xx

  • Oh Lebel

bless you I’m sorry to hear it maybe triple negative , my friend had this she had the 6 months of chemo then after operation had another 6 months of chemo tablets but the 2 nd lot of chemotherapy tablets the mop up chemo she didn’t loose her hair or anything xx

but triple negative responds very good to chemo , and this does not require hormone therapy afterwards xx

  • Hi Laraj hope your ok?

im glad I’m on holiday a few mojitos to calm my nerves. I was half expecting it but just really worried that having week after week of chemo will give me no time of “normal/recovery” in between sessions. I’m dreading it….defo need to wig shop now :(xx

  • I was told it would take about 35 minutes but I didn’t actually notice the time they actually started and finished. It sounds like a long time to lay still but I was comfortable so it wasn’t a problem. I certainly didn’t find it scary- which some people (not here) had suggested it was. There are lots of noises but nothing too loud or sudden xx

  • Oh Lebell I am sorry for your news. I don’t really understand the receptor stuff and I am scared to Google at moment. So can’t say I fully understand what it means but Chemo does sound scary but hopefully your body will respond well and it will get rid of the cancer for good which is the light at end of it all. Then you can hopefully go on living your life to the max. I have however had 2 MRI’s previously on my back including one when I was heavily pregnant and I can assure you they are nothing to worry about very noisy hence the headphones but other than that fine. Hope this gives some reassurance if I can’t reassure on anything else. Sending you a big hug and enjoy those mojitos x
