Urgent referral for breast lump

Hi all,

I’m new here, hope you’re all doing ok - thanks for reading my post.

it’s 2.40am and having real trouble sleeping at the moment as the panic has set in - I’ve been ok up until now.

I noticed some lumpy areas in my left breast and got an appointment last Friday at the docs, who have referred me to the breast clinic under the 2 week period (still awaiting an appointment).

in 2021, I found a lumpy area in my right breast in the inner lower quadrant and had a ultrasound which revealed it was a lipoma. I mentioned this to the doc last Friday who didn’t examine this breast. I have now realised that what I assumed was the lipoma in the same area is now possibly an additional hard lump and I’m now worrying myself silly - I don’t remember the lipoma feeling so hard but have assumed for a long time it was the original lipoma.

I know it’s worth awaiting my appointment at the breast clinic  rather than going back to the doctors as they can’t do anything, it’s just trying to manage the anxiety and the horrible spiralling thoughts.

please let me know if you have any tips for handling the worry for anyone else in the same boat - thanks for reading my early morning ramblings!

love to you all x

  • Morning all

Same as you all went to see doctor on Friday had letter today for breat clinic week today

Is ut normal for appointment to come so fast

I found one lump in right upper side of breast but during doctor exam found a further 2 in arm pit can not get it off my brain and had a melt down friday night

  • Hey Missty,

Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear that you’re having a tough time with worry.

like others have said, it’s all very normal to receive your referral very quickly. I received a referral review letter in the post the day after my doctors appointment, but then it took a few weeks to get my appointment (due to the waitlist in my area and recent strikes) whereas others received their appointments much quicker than me.

I’m pleased you’ve managed to get an appointment so soon, but please don’t read anything into this.

it’s incredibly hard to focus on anything else when you’re so anxious, but honestly, having a good cry and getting those emotions out are so important. I hope you have a good support network around you - do try and keep yourself busy if you can. Watch a few episodes of something to take your mind off things or take yourself out for a lovely walk somewhere pretty and soak up nature.

Let us know how you get on, we are all here to chat anytime xx

  • Hi Ruby,

No problem- I’m the same in trying to keep up with everything and everyone! My understanding is that stage 1 is the where the cancer hasn’t spread, which means less intensive treatment required. Hopefully surgery will get rid of it, and that is followed up by radiotherapy to make sure. The breast care nurse and the doctor were both brilliant at explaining everything to me, so don’t worry about not understanding everything. Like you, my worry was about how it may have spread- I was convinced it was cancer, so it was a case of how bad it might be.

  • Thank you for the explanation. So glad that you will get rid of it with the less invasive treatment. I guess I am just asking questions to try and prepare myself for whatever outcome I may have. I have less than a week to wait now till my day in hospital my dr thinks it’s cancer I could tell from how she responded to me at the surgery. So only time will tell. I have e pcr passed for you

  • Hi GoonerGirl,

Although we all dread a cancer diagnosis, knowing what we are dealing with is so much easier to cope with, than the unknown situation you've been in for the past couple of weeks. I'm glad to hear that you've told your kids now and hope that your daughter can cope with this.

You're on the road to get rid of this now and that's a much better place to be.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi does anyone have appointments this week? I have mine on Thursday so hopefully have missed any delay due to dr strikes hope you have a new date Missty for yours. I am dreading my appointment but also just want it over with. It’s such a strange feeling.

  • Hi Goonergirl how are you doing? Hope your okay x

  • Hi Lebell how are you doing when do you start treatment x

  • Hey Ruby, I'm sure someone has they're appointment today, but I can't remember who.

I have my appointment tomorrow. Completely dreading it. I think I have fybrocystic breast. As far as I can tell from everyone here, the ones that had a diagnosis had dimpling and I don't.  Not sure anyway

  • I have an ultrasound and biopsy on Wednesday at 2pm. I just want it over with. I can't concentrate at home or uni.

  • I’m fine thank you. I have an MRI this afternoon. I think it’s to confirm everything as the ultrasound showed 2 areas of cancer which they think are joined, but there is dense tissue between which they want to check. I’m just hoping it doesn’t show anything new xx

  • Keep my fingers crossed for you gooner.
