Colonoscopy woes

Hi Everyone

It all started two weeks ago when my mum had quite a substantial bleed from the rectum. She then did a FIT test which was positive and this Saturday will have a colonoscopy.
As you can imagine, she is stressed, especially as she had breast cancer two years ago. I keep telling myself and her that we don’t know anything yet, that it could be many things and yet… I am so worried for her. I am also struggling to keep my nerve as I struggle with anxiety (just now in the office I nearly shouted at my colleague for asking a simple question). Any words of wisdom?

  • Hi MGgirl,

I’m sorry to hear about about your Mum.

I’d love to say something outstandingly profound that will instantly help you. Unfortunately, profundity isn’t one of my most apparent qualities.

what I would say though is that it’s normal to feel overwhelmed sometimes, especially in situations such as the one in which you have found yourself and when one thing in your life is overwhelming you, it’s difficult to perform as usual in other aspects of life.

I don’t think it’s fair to expect yourself to “continue business as normal” at such a time; everything isn’t normal at the moment.

you did say you nearly shouted at a colleague and I think “nearly” is the important part. You managed to avoid shouting.
mot seems like you’re not doing too badly, to me, at least.

just remember to reach out to others for support if you need it.

I hope all goes well for Mum.

    Best Wishes
