Colonoscopy woes

Hi Everyone

It all started two weeks ago when my mum had quite a substantial bleed from the rectum. She then did a FIT test which was positive and this Saturday will have a colonoscopy.
As you can imagine, she is stressed, especially as she had breast cancer two years ago. I keep telling myself and her that we don’t know anything yet, that it could be many things and yet… I am so worried for her. I am also struggling to keep my nerve as I struggle with anxiety (just now in the office I nearly shouted at my colleague for asking a simple question). Any words of wisdom?

  • Hello MGgirl

I'm sorry to hear that your Mum has had some health problems recently. It's understandable that you're both feeling anxious ahead of her colonoscopy tomorrow.

You're quite right when you say that there could be any number of reasons for the bleed that she's recently experienced so trying to keep that in mind and remain positive can help.

Hopefully, tomorrow's appointment will bring some answers and reassurance for you both. Do keep in touch and let us know how she gets on.

    Best wishes,

  • Thanks - the last few days have been rough. Unfortunately it is a busy time at work and my boss doesn’t seem to see the situation as being as serious as I feel it could be. If mum needs treatment after this I think I will have to resign my job as they are really not that understanding about needing time off unless it is for childcare. Feeling rather alone.
