Hi
Try not to worry. I was freaking out when my endometrium was 24mm and 'appeared cystic'. I had a D&C and hysteroscopy and no abnormalities. I have to say, even the Surgeon said he was surprised as it 'looked abnormal'. I believe he got them to re-test. I was also 47 with abnormal bleeding. Now I am 48 and have not yet stopped bleeding....in over 18 months. I am scheduled for a hysterectomy.....sometime and am managing symptoms with progesterone.
The biopsy is done during a hysteroscopy. They look into the womb and take a biopsy. This can be done with just pain killers or under GA. I have only had the procedure under GA. I'm sure other people can advise on having it whilst conscious. There are varying reports from not much worse than a cervical smear to excruiatingly painful. Try and find out exactly what they are offering you and discuss any concerns with your healthcare provider.
I have a thickening of the womb lining too, ive been told, by the appointments coordinator, that I could be waiting for 53 weeks for a hysteroscopy and biopsy. Scary times.
53 weeks that's crazy- I'd definitely be reaching out to PALS as anything with suspected cancer is meant to be seen within 63 days and that includes starting treatment.
I was seen within 3 weeks and had biopsies. I was then called in a week later with my results then since had MRIs etc which in total has take two months because my hospital is so backlogged. I'm pretty lucky they caught mine early.
Fingers crossed for you
It does seem a bit negligent doesn't it, but i was assured by the booking coordinator that she had other priority patients who had been waiting for 53 weeks. I emailed PALS and they said to contact them again if I hadn't heard anything within a week, so i emailed them again yesterday. I think im being punished for not being able to have the biopsy and hysteroscopy without an anaesthetic.
I guess it depends on other factors too. Your age and whether you are post menopausal, the other symptoms that led you to have the ultrasound etc. If you have a spare £2-2,500, then you could get it done next week, privately......
I had a hysteroscopy done last week where they removed a polyp and took biopsies ,its not nice but there's no way I was waiting forever for a GA it would have been delayed and that worried me more ,I just hope I never have to have another .
Im 62, probably at least 10 years post meno, 3 years on HRT (oestrogel and utrogesran), i had a week long post meno bleed in August. Prior to that, the occasional spotting and after the bleed, spotting for 2 days every 2 weeks.
Could you direct me to where i can have it done next week for £2 - £2,500? I can only find places that charge around £6500
Hi Janine
A hysterectomy would be in that region, but a hysteroscopy including biopsies is £2-2,500. So that would be looking for any cell changes. Speak to your closest private hospital. I had one done last year and then my results were sent to my Dr. We are not allowed to mention specific hospitals here though.I made an appointment with the Consultant Gynaeocolgist and then he booked the tests, which he did under GA the following week. Usually, the initial consultation is one fee and then they have a set price for the procedure including post-op check.
Is that without anaesthetic? I'll need a general or a spinal block. Ill have another look.
I had general anaesthetic as they did a d&c. They get a bettter tissue sample that way.
