Doctor thinks husband may have Prostate cancer with mets

My  79 year old husand is being referred for CT scan for ? prosate cancer with mets. HOwever he has never shown any signs and symtons of prosate cancer or mets. His blood test has shown very high PSA levels which is why the Dr thinks he has prostate cancer. Has anyone had experience of this as I am in total shock and very worried about his progosis.

  • Hi Delhi  trouble is Brenda's had a few brakedowns because family deaths and me years ago she thought i was dieing as Dr's and specialists couldn't find what was wrong with me. But definitely something. (Addisons).

Hope things keep going well for Mike.

  • HI Billy, just to say that Mike had his 4th chemotherapy treatment this morning and the good news is that his PSA is 0.1 and Alkaline Phosphatase 69. Both within normal ranges, hope this continues especailly when his chemotherapy cycle finishes.

Hope you are doing ok and in good health. Delhi

  • Hi Delhi, really glad about Mikes psa. Normally chemotherapy stays in the system for a fair while and still doing its job.

Brenda is really good but worried about me,I've been bitten again having back pains since been off enzalutamide spoke to oncologist and they said definitely cancer so im getting booked in for radiotherapy, don't know when yet only spoke oncology yesterday.

  • Hi Billy hope u you have started your RT by now. Mike saw the Oncologist this afternoon and was advised to have RT treatment after he finishes his last chemotherapy session. He will RT weekly for 6 weeks along with a course of bone strengthening tabs. So whilst I was feeling quite positive at the meeting but when the oncologist said the RT won't make Mike live any longer it just threw me. Not sure why he made that remark especially as he was pleased with the psa and alkaline phosphatase results. Thankfully Mike hasn't paid too much attention to the remark and feels positive about the meeting.
let me know how you are getting on and lots of positive vibes for your RT treatment.

  • Hi Billy, I hope you are okay as I havent heard from you for some time. Hope all is going ok with Brenda as well. Mike completed his 6 week chemotherapy treatments last week. Had an MRI this morning which went ok. He may start his radiotherapy treatment before Xmas which heis okay about.

Do keep in touch as I would love to know how you are getting on. I really appreciated your words of advice and encouragement when I first posted Mike's diagnosis on this forrum.

    Take care

  • So sorry not replying sooner been trying to tidy house and moving things about ready for Christmas tree and trimmings. And emptying gazebo ready to take down.

I'm really glad Mike managed chemotherapy ok and finished it .

Brenda is fine but worried about me.

I've been waiting for blood test form from oncologist for three weeks foned up last week and told send another, i was having blood test tomorrow but Dr's sent text closed due to illness, so I've phoned oncologist and waiting for reply about what i can do.

    Rather chaos.

Radiotherapy can be painful after a few hours, and can make you very tired for days after.  Hope things keep going well for you both .

  • Thanks for this and so nice to hear from you Billy. It looks like you are very busy getting ready for Xmas.

I just have a query to ask. Mke for reason has felt sick a couple of times especially after drinking pomegranite shots. He has had these many times before during this treatments with no effect at all.  It just seems odd that on  completion of his treatment he has had these two episodes of feeling sick.  Is this normal?. Otherwise he is tolerating  all food.Maybe thereis something in the shots ( tumeric)  that is not agreeing with him?.

Take care of yourself and all good wishes to you and Brenda.

  • Quite possibly something in his shots that chemotherapy doesn't like remember chemotherapy doesn't stop working when treatment stops he could still get side effects years after, hope he doesn't.

Hope your looking after yourself as well.

  • Hi Billy, now with xmas and NY over we are back on the treatment regime again. Mike had his first radiotherapy session last Friday and he has another 5 weekly sessions to go. He felt okay except for the fact of having to get up in the middle of the night to spend a penny. Apart from this he seems in good form and continues to play his tennis and badminton.

Hope you and Brend had a restful Xmas and you are keeping well and healthy. All the very best wishes for 2023 and I a sending positive thoughts for you and Brenda.

    Warmaest wishes

  • HI Billy

I hope you are okay and all is going well with your treatment. Mike had his last radiotherapy last Thursday and will wait for 3 months before he sees the Oncologist. He will have a PSA blood test a week before the appointment so it will be all fingers crossed for a good outcome pending the RT etc.

Otherwise all is okay with us as Mike continues to play tennis and badminton Looking forward to the spring and summer.

Hope to hear from you and all the best to you and Brenda.

    Warmest wishes
